Postdoctoral Researcher in Chemical Polymer Modification and Electrospinning

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at Empa, a leading research institution in the field of materials science and technology. The successful candidate will work on the development of novel chemical modification strategies for polymers and electrospinning techniques for the production of inert filter composites.
The project involves the chemical modification of commercial high-performance polymers in controlled scalable processes, the production of electrospun membranes as prospective filters on a needleless roll-to-roll pilot-scale, and the transfer of these composites through various post-processing techniques. The Postdoctoral Researcher will also be responsible for establishing and implementing high-temperature and chemical fatigue testing, as well as disseminating the results through publications and patents.
We are looking for a candidate with a PhD degree in Chemical Functionalisation/Engineering, Electrospinning, Materials/Polymer Science/Technology, and/or Polymer Processing. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in these areas and be proficient in both English (CEFR C1) and German (at least basic level). Scientific curiosity, independence, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment are essential for this role.

The work will be carried out at Empa St. Gallen under supervision by Dr. Gordon Herwig and Prof. Dr. René Rossi. The position is temporary for two years, with a prospective start date in February 2025.
