About the Position
The University of St is seeking a highly qualified Postdoctoral Researcher in Latin American Studies to join our team. As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will be responsible for conducting research in the area of illegal or informal economies with a focus on Latin America.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research in the area of illegal or informal economies with a focus on Latin America, addressing legality/illegality interfaces, linkages between illegal markets and governments, state agencies, or businesses.
- Submit papers to peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences.
- Engage in collaborations in an interdisciplinary environment, including sociology, political science, international law, and anthropology.
- Apply for external research funding, such as grants from the Swiss National Science Foundation or private foundations.
- Assist with various tasks related to the chair and the Latin American studies in Switzerland, including administration of the Swiss Society of Americanists, the Swiss School of Latin American Studies, and the Centro Latinoamericano-Suizo.
- Work in our office on a daily basis.
Requirements
- Ph.D. degree in sociology, political science, anthropology, development studies, or a related discipline.
- Documented knowledge of the Latin American region.
- Strong interest in academic research and proficiency in qualitative and (to a lesser degree) quantitative research methods.
- Experience conducting and managing research projects in the Latin American region is an advantage.
- Track record of international publications, third-party funding, and participation in academic bodies.
- Ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, in an interdisciplinary and international research team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. German and/or Spanish language skills are an advantage.
