Job Summary

The International Labour Organization is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Relations Specialist to join its team in Geneva. As a key member of the Bureau for Employers' Activities, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the programme of development cooperation for Latin America and supervising the work of Senior Employer Specialists in the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and monitor the work of an ACT/EMP policy team, determining priorities and scheduling work items to ensure policy coverage and meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Provide advice to senior ILO officials on matters of concern to the Employers' Group and represent ACT/EMP at official meetings and conferences.
  • Provide technical support to the Employers' Group during the Governing Body and the International Labour Conference, regional and sectoral meetings, and ensure that the discussion process is supported.
  • As Desk Officer for Latin America, provide policy and technical advice and guidance to Senior Employer Specialists in the region, checking, controlling, and verifying work plans, coordinating the production of required reports, and recommending action to management.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in economics, labour law, public administration, industrial relations, political science, or other relevant field.
  • At least ten years of professional experience, including at the international level, in labour policy analysis and in dealing with the issues pertaining to relations, actions, and programmes of employers' organizations.
  • Excellent command of Spanish and a working knowledge of another working language of the Organization (English, French).

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of employers' and of labour-related programmes, issues, practices, and processes.
  • Political insight and sound judgement.
  • Ability to present and advocate policy changes in difficult circumstances.
  • Ability to make authoritative judgements and to assume managerial, administrative, and supervisory responsibilities.
