At Neurosoft Bioelectronics, we are pushing the boundaries of neurotechnology by developing implantable brain-computer interfaces (iBCIs) to address severe neurological conditions. Our research focuses on leveraging novel materials to enhance long-term functionality within the human body.

We have gathered specific datasets of brain activity recorded from animal models and human subjects using our iBCIs. To advance our understanding of neuronal signals, we are investigating how advanced artificial intelligence (AI) techniques can be used to improve decoding of these signals.

This project will involve testing various strategies using AI foundation models to decode brain activity over a period of one year. The following steps will be undertaken:

  • Data curation, preparation, and formatting to match models' inputs — this will be done in-house at Neurosoft Bioelectronics
  • Development and tuning of a large-scale neuronal decoding model that can effectively combine brain datasets from different sources
  • Model testing, fine-tuning, and decoding of brain data
Job Requirements

We are looking for a motivated individual currently enrolled in a study program at EPFL or a similar technical institution. The selected candidate will split their time into a full-time 6-month paid internship at Neurosoft Bioelectronics, followed by a 6-month MSc thesis in collaboration with selected laboratories from the Neuro-X institute.

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in AI models and/or experience with advanced machine learning courses. Familiarity with basic human neuroscience and willingness to learn about auditory neuroscience are also essential.

Specific skills required include:

  • Experience with AI models and/or attendance of specific advanced machine learning courses
  • Background in basic human neuroscience and/or willingness to learn about auditory neuroscience
  • Ease & experience with code or data handling tools (e.g., python, MATLAB)
  • Ease & experience with machine learning and deep learning models and tools (e.g., transformer architecture, deep learning models, CNNs)
  • Willingness to collaborate with students and supervisors from partner institutions outside of EPFL
  • Good communication skills and language level (at least B2) in English, French is a plus
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced start-up environment
Compensation and Benefits

The full-time 6-month paid internship will provide a salary of $60,000 per annum, commensurate with the semester schedule. If successfully completed, the internship will be followed by a 6-month full-time MSc thesis opportunity in collaboration with selected laboratory(s) from the Neuro-X institute at EPFL.

A financial compensation from Neurosoft Bioelectronics could potentially be provided during the MSc thesis.
