**Salary **:Based on the salary scale set out by the Canton of Vaud for Doctoral Student SNSF funded by grants from the Swiss National Science Foundation

**Your responsibilities**:

- You will complete a doctoral dissertation under the supervision of Professor Laura Bernardi and the co-supervision by Professor Elli Mosayebi.
- You will specifically work on the socio-demographic study where you will have the chance to participate to the conception, the collection and the analysis of a unique national representative panel in Switzerland.
- One of your primary focuses will be the trajectory of children legal and physical custody after parental separation and divorce, their determinants and their association with indicators of children well-being
- You will present your results in international conferences and publish them in scientific journals; and coordinate with the other PhD students of the Sinergia project.

**Your qualifications**:

- You have a Master of in Demography, Sociology, Social Sciences or equivalent degree.
- You are highly motivated to complete a doctoral dissertation as part of the Sinergia project (see project description below)
- You have a high interest in scientific research on family structure, family dynamics and children wellbeing. Interest in institutional regulation of families is an asset.
- You have good knowledge of statistics and research methodology and willing to invest in learning more advanced methods
- You have some experience in longitudinal method analyses.
- Having participated to the creation and implementation of a large survey is an asset
- You are organized, self-reliant, able to work independently, cooperative and with positive attitudes towards team work
- You master written and spoken English, fluency in written and spoken French and / or Italian is desirable

- You will have a chance to be a part of a project which aim at producing integrated empirical evidence to further theory, research, and practice on children living conditions and social inequalities among children related to family structure and dynamics.
- You will gain experience in working in an interdisciplinary team with both academic and non-academic experts in the field of child well-being following union dissolution.

**Additional information**:
You will work on a research project funded by a Sinergia grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation (CRSII5_213601). The project is titled "FamyCH: Family Custody Arrangements and Child Well-Being in Switzerland”, and its grant applicants are: Prof. Joëlle Darwiche, main coordinator, University of Lausanne; Prof. Laura Bernardi, University of Lausanne; Prof. Sabrina Burgat, University of Neuchâtel; Prof. Elli Mosayebi, ETH Zurich.

The project focuses on post-separation custody arrangements and their impact on children and will contribute to the identification of risk and resilience factors for child well-being after parental union dissolution in Switzerland. Four interdisciplinary studies will be conducted: 1) a national panel survey to assess indicators of child well-being in three different living arrangements 2) a psychological study to assess daily relational dynamics of parents and children within the three family structures; 3) a housing study to assess the experience and practices of housing and mobility patterns using in-depth ethnographic observation; and 4) a legal study to assess the arguments defining the legal decisions about children’s physical custody in legal documents.
