As a member of our Host Engineering team within the Microbial R&D at Lonza, you will contribute to the development of Lonza’s microbial hosts for optimal production of recombinant proteins. You will conduct R&D experiments in molecular biology, biochemistry, fermentation and bioanalysis. You are technically skilled, independent and self-organized. You like innovation and are willing to be engaged in an interdisciplinary team tackling the dynamic challenges of projects in a growing environment.

Key responsibilities:

- Plan, lead and execute internal and external innovation projects from concept to delivery and align these with Lonza’s strategic innovation program, CDMO services and commercial business needs
- Manage and train a team of scientists and technicians to ensure timely project delivery, documentation and reporting
- Support the innovation process by evaluating and implementing of new technologies and enabling a successful technology transfer to Lonza’s Microbial CDMO services

Key requirements:

- PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or a similar field with min. 3 years industry experience in strain engineering
- Min. 3 years of proven scientific project management experience
- Strong background and hands-on experience in synthetic biology, biochemistry, genome engineering and molecular biology including bioanalytical methods (protein analytics, NGS, _etc._). Experience in automation, high-throughput screening and/or fermentation is a plus
- Excellent skills in data analysis of complex data sets
- Scientific rigor, organizational skills and ability to communicate results internally and outside Lonza
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment combined with a lean-agile mindset
- Team spirit, initiative and willingness to learn
- Excellent communication skills in English complete your profile. Germen is a plus
