**THE ROLE**
The Head of Marketplace Operations is responsible for leading and coordinating the development of the operations of Sotheby's Marketplace and Retail across EMEA, mainly UK and Switzerland, which includes production, logistics, fulfillment and customer service. In this role, you will need to be a forward-thinking leader, using data and best practices to implement and improve processes and automation to support the scaling of an ecommerce platform.
You will define and implement strategies and processes to enable a seamless self-serve checkout and commerce experience on the Marketplace and Retail platform, and work with product and technology to best enable those processes. You will work with and manage vendors to uphold a best-in-class client experience. You will align at the highest level.
Sotheby's company priorities with effective day-to-day operations, helping to evolve early stage ideas into scalable initiatives, supporting the growth of the marketplace across categories and geographies. This role is the key conduit between our specialist departments that source the product, the technologies that power our online selling platform, and the teams who are driving traffic and business through the platform.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Lead the definition and improvement of business operational processes as they relate to the platform and platform tools. Includes understanding business and process improvement opportunities, understanding the technical landscape, and defining solutions that will support the business team in achieving their objectives.
- Refine and continually improve retail operations with the team in Zurich to support a retail outlet
- Collaborate with marketplace VP's to support Product & Technology scope and prioritizations including eCommerce key platform enhancements and projects.
- Use data to make decisions and form business cases, centered around a strong understanding of unit economics, tying back to the balance sheet and overall P&L.
- Manage key operational functions around verification and production, payment, risk. management, fraud monitoring, order management, fulfillment, fallout monitoring, etc.
- Work with wider global Operations team to continuously improve existing systems and reporting, including CRM, Shipping label and tracking automation system, general reporting and more.
**IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES**
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a technical discipline; MBA degree is desired
- Marketplace ecommerce and dropship operations experience, and proven understanding of key areas such as production, logistics and fulfilment, order management and customer support
- Comfortable with ambiguity and change - Marketplace is a new business within Sotheby's and we are currently building out and constantly improving processes.
- Worked with and managed vendors across the ecommerce operations landscape, including shipping providers, outsource partners for customer support, etc.
- Proven track record in driving scalable change and business transformations
- Willingness to continuously improve, develop, and understand industry best practices and a desire to stay ahead of the curve and at the forefront of innovation
- Six Sigma Certification is desired
- Have experience managing teams
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team (locally and international
- Excellent organisational skills
- Be proactive/motivated/confident/forward thinking and efficient, with a good eye for detail and ability to prioritisetasks and to meet deadlines
- Excellent communication skills, written and spoken
- Fluent in English essential, other languages beneficial
- Have experience working in a startup environment
