**DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**

Manages and directs field maintenance operations for the Vegetation Management Section of the Stormwater Operations Branch. Responsible for coordinating daily activities to maintain vegetation assets located within the City of Houston’s right-of-way including but not limited to green spaces along City streets, off-road drainage channels, drainage easements and green stormwater infrastructure sites. Manages practices and scheduling of mowing & herbicide operations, safety-based vegetation control, and green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) inspections and maintenance. Regularly evaluates work methods and procedures to maintain and improve efficient maintenance operations by assessing individual and group performances. Plans and implements short and long-term improvements. Assists with the development of productivity measures and monitors performance. Empowers and supports subordinates to meet performance measures and assures that monthly production is on target and reported in an accurate and timely manner. Forecasts budget for future program needs. Maintains current knowledge of vegetation management practices and technologies including principles of green stormwater infrastructure implementation and maintenance. Implements and monitors technical and safety training for section’s staff. Coordinates and oversees any contracted vegetation management services. Works cooperatively with other Stormwater Operations groups such as storm sewer and ditch maintenance sections, and engineering and asset management teams. Interacts and collaborates with other branches within Transportation & Drainage Operations, other City departments such as Parks & Recreation, and external agencies such as Harris County Flood Control District. Develops working relationships and communicates with internal and external stakeholders regarding maintenance plans, customer complaints and inquiries.

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**

**EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline would normally be obtained through a formal 4-year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

**EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS**
Seven years of experience closely related to the activities of the area or division to be supervised are required.

Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

**PREFERENCES**
- Preference shall be given to applicants who have experience with vegetation management practices and analyzing and interpreting procedures, policies, and practices.
