Why we are recruiting
As part of the Centre for Regional and Geopolitical Affairs, the MENA team manages relationships with governments and other public institutions in the region. The team is also responsible for stimulating public-private partnerships aimed at tackling challenges and achieving sustained economic progress in the region, including on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Climate Action.
The team is the main source of expertise on the region within the organization and leads on geopolitical and diplomatic initiatives that the Forum leads.
The role will consist of a portfolio of governments, where relationships will need to be expanded and deepened, as well as content-related work that is relevant to the region.
Reporting Lines & Interactions
This position is for an individual contributor reporting to the Head of MENA.
Within the Forum, the position will interact with all other teams, helping to facilitate and manage engagement between the Forum and the region. Externally, the position interacts primarily with our key stakeholders in select countries in the region, especially high-level officials.
Breakdown of main responsibilities
- 70% Relationship management and incubating initiatives with Platforms
- 30% Policy analysis, content creation and project management
- Map out, establish and develop relationships on behalf of the Forum with key government entities and leaders in the MENA region
- Represent the Forum in external meetings as required and support its leadership in high-level meetings (including planning, reporting and taking minutes)
- Engage government leaders in Forum initiatives and events - such as the Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters
- and handle their participation (from operations to content) in a professional manner
- Monitoring policy priorities of governments in the region to ensure that the Forum’s work is cutting-edge and up-to-date and conduct research/analysis as needed of developments (including drafting of briefing notes to the leadership)
- Collaborate internally with various centres and teams to deploy/adapt their work in the region as relevant and work with them to identify and secure direct funding opportunities for projects in the region
- Work closely with the business team and play an active role where possible in driving public-private dialogue at the highest level
- Manage projects or communities in the region with an entrepreneurial mindset
- Be an ambassador of the Forum and preserve its reputation and trust at all times
Preferred Requirements and Experience
- 5 years professional experience, including relevant exposure to the Middle East and North Africa
- Master’s degree in international relations, economics, or other relevant fields
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic. French would be a plus.
- Experience working in an agile manner in a fast-evolving context while proactively delivering results under pressure
- Experience working with senior officials (preferably from the region), including building relationships, facilitating meetings and leading briefings/presentations for instance
- Impeccable judgement, deep understanding of the region’s sensitivities and the ability to navigate while maintaining the Forum’s impartiality
- Ability to connect the dots in a complex environment, with a strong service and entrepreneurial orientation
- Energetic, autonomous, and collaborative team player with previous exposure to a fast-paced and international environment
- Proven interest in geopolitics, international affairs and business with track-record of remaining up to date of related developments in the region
