- The Technology Development Director will be responsible to support BU mRNA to access (external) technologies and IP. It is his/her responsibility to assess and evaluate technologies for strategic fit, to establish business cases, to coordinate and develop financial models, to establish a technology acquisition strategy and to support negotiations with external partners. Furthermore, he/she will be performing internal innovation strategy projects with the objective to provide access to technologies that will help BU mRNA expand its manufacturing value chain, complement technology/IP and/or to support inorganic growth ambitions.**Key responsibilities**:

- In alignment with the established mRNA innovation strategy, proactively identify and evaluate technologies and IP, relevant to the Lonza mRNA platform. Initiate data and information gathering to enable further evaluation.
- Support mRNA Innovation and cross-functional diligence teams with strategic fit analysis and preparation of business cases. Deliver distilled/differentiated viewpoints, to identify key outstanding questions and articulate rational next steps toward identifying and developing investment proposals for presentation to senior leadership
- Perform internal innovation strategy projects with the objective to continuously develop the innovation roadmap and to assess new technology areas.
- Lead and support evaluation of business-development opportunities (in-licensing, strategic collaborations, M&A) by working in close partnership with key innovation/research, external innovation, licensing and commercial colleagues with a primary focus on the scientific and technical aspects to advance (or exclude) opportunities through further diligence
- Establish networks, both internally and externally, to survey proactively the emerging scientific and technological competitive landscape in therapeutic/disease areas that are (or might become) of strategic interest to Lonza

**Key requirements**:

- PhD, MSc Biotechnology/Biochemistry or other relevant degree
- Advanced years of relevant biotech/CDMO industry experience. Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or equivalent and Consulting, Commercial, Business management
- Several years of experience in a related business, commercial or strategy consulting role.
- Understands the scientific, technical, and competitive landscape, to develop scenarios and rationales, and to make thoughtful recommendations that will enable key senior stakeholders to position Lonza optimally to compete successfully in highly dynamic environments
- Strong knowledge of multiple aspects of the drug manufacturing and development process
- Demonstrates an ability to rapidly understand, distill and clearly communicate complicated, and often limited, multidisciplinary information. Incumbent is required to problem-solve, think critically and deliver results in a timely manner and at the highest levels of excellence. Strong scientific background, analytical mindset and outstanding communication skills.
