Collège du Léman is one of Switzerland’s most prestigious international day and boarding schools, located on the edge of Lake Geneva in view of the Swiss Alps.

It is a truly international community with more than 150 different nationalities among the 2000 day and 300 boarding students. They come together on a green, village-like campus covering 8 hectares.

**Main Purpose of the Role**

The Librarian uses his/her skills as well as commitment, enthusiasm, and integrity to manage, develop, promote and evaluate an effective learning resource and information service which supports learning and teaching across the school.

The librarian is an educator; someone who is able to manage, advise and support students and present to a whole class/large group on matters such as research and study skills.

The librarian will access the curriculum and make suggestions and collate resources for teachers when asked. He/She will be creative in considering and proposing different approaches and activities which might work well at CDL.

His/her human skills and spontaneity will aid the dialogue with his/her colleagues and students.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Relating to the Library Environment**
- Organising and managing the library books, periodicals and electronic resources (materials) to support teaching and learning throughout the school
- Organising and managing the loan of all documents, reminders, and overdue materials
- Research into new ways of supplying and utilising digital materials for the Library e.g. ebooks and databases

**Relating to Library Users**
- To ensure the effective use of the Library by classes and individuals
- To maintain a welcoming, supportive atmosphere conducive to positive learning experiences

**Relating to the Students**
- To supervise students using the library for independent study.
- To promote knowledge of library skills, literature and reading individually and with regular class visits and lesson planning in collaboration with teachers.
- To promote external projects with classes and staff as appropriate.

**Relating to the Staff Team**
- To utilise the materials and sources available and inform the teachers as required for the curriculum.
- To assist teachers with appropriate information material during their class visits.
- To provide external professional sources (authors, illustrators, storytellers, publishers, journalists) to educate and encourage students.

**Relating to the Hierarchy - Administration**
- To take responsibility for and manage the library budget, including the preparation of budget bids and estimates.
- To promote the Librarian’s professional development and assist them to maintain a comprehensive awareness of current development in information and library management, education and children’s literature (Librarian Professional Development Courses, ECIS etc. and visits to Book Fairs).
- To build relationships with SGIS librarians (in Switzerland) to achieve the above and share skills, knowledge and experience.

**Skills / Qualities Required**
- Professional Librarian Qualification
- Work as a librarian within a secondary school
- Sense of service, patience, and availability
- Sense of organisation and anticipation
- Good cultural background, interested and open-minded to people & technologies
- Good interpersonal and excellent communication skills -communicates well with staff and students
- Methodical, structured
- Pressure resilient - able to manage stress.
- Bilingual French - English
