NORRAG is the Global Education Centre of the Geneva Graduate Institute and is a global network of over 5,800 members for international policies and cooperation in education and training.

NORRAG’s strength lies in addressing under-researched questions of quality and equity in key issues in education and development, and in amplifying under-represented expertise, particularly from the South. NORRAG’s core mandate is to produce, disseminate and broker critical knowledge and to build capacity for and with the wide range of stakeholders who constitute our network. Our stakeholders from academia, governments, NGOs, international organisations, foundations and the private sector inform and shape education policies and practices at national and international levels. Through our work, NORRAG contributes to creating the conditions for more participatory, evidence-informed decisions that improve equal access to and quality of education and training.

As part of this mandate, NORRAG is recruiting a Research Assistant with quantitative and financial data analysis skills to work on the research project “Innovative Financing for Education (IFE) to Leave No One Behind”.

**About the Innovative Financing for Education to Leave No One Behind project**
The IFE-2-Leave No One Behind project conducts impact evaluation research to assess the contribution of innovation in education financing to bringing in more and better financing to educate the most disadvantaged and marginalised groups. The research is conducted by three university partners - NORRAG, the Global Education Centre of the Geneva Graduate Institute, the Bertha Centre at the University of Cape Town-Graduate School of Business (UCT-GSB) in Cape Town, and the Centre of Excellence in Teacher Education (CETE) at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai, in collaboration with implementation partners. The project focuses on innovative financing initiatives implemented by UBS Optimus Foundation, Volta Capital and Language and Learning Foundation in Ghana, India, Kenya, Sierra Leone, and South Africa. The research design utilises mixed-methods impact research to assess if and how innovative financing mechanisms, arrangements, and programme elements are likely to produce educational benefits for marginalised and vulnerable student populations. The project is co-funded by the TRANSFORM research initiative of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the research and implementation partners. project.

**The role**:
This position is for 6 months (with the possibility to renew the contract until the end of the project) and for an activity rate of 50% (with the possibility that it can be increased up to 80% depending on availability).

**Key responsibilities**:

- Support the quantitative research design for the innovative financing initiatives being studied, such as developing research methodologies, quantitative data collection instruments, sampling strategies.
- Support the team with extracting and analysing financial data and education outcomes data, as well as with writing knowledge products including research papers, project reports, technical papers etc. for a wide array of audiences ranging from practitioners to researchers.
- Engage in exploratory data analysis, using the findings to provide feedback and suggestions for research design.
- Support the development of a data entry system for the innovative financing initiatives’ data, including designing guidelines on the specific processes to be followed by research teams.
- Work closely with the Project Director, Research Associate and other Research Assistants to conduct a systematic literature review on innovative financing. Develop a data collection instrument, conduct a systematic literature search on an assigned subtopic within innovative financing, input findings into the data collection tool, identify patterns and conduct thematic analysis.
- Search for secondary data from the studies captured within the literature review and propose potential research analyses of secondary data.
- Support the development of a public-facing databases on innovative financing literature including evaluation and programme implementation experience.
- Conduct analysis on evaluation methodologies utilised in innovative financing initiatives.

**To be successful in this role, you should have**:

- Master’s degree in a related field (finance, economics, econometrics, statistics, etc).
- 1+ years of post-Master’s work experience in one of these fields.
