This post is located in the Spanish Interpretation Section, Interpretation Service, Division of Conference Management (DCM), Department for General Assembly and Conference Management, Geneva, and is under the general supervision of the Chief, Interpretation Service.
**Responsibilities**:
Under the broad supervision of the Chief, Spanish Interpretation Booth, the Interpreter will be responsible for the following duties:
- Services up to seven meetings per week (exceptionally eight), usually of no more than three hours duration.
- Provides interpretation, as required, into Spanish of speeches or statements given in English and French.
- Routinely functions as team leader of all interpreters assigned to a given meeting.
- Routinely covers sensitive and complex meetings.
- May be called upon to serve as Chief Interpreter on missions.
- May assist in the screening, training and examining of prospective Spanish interpreters.
- May provide guidance and coaching to junior interpreters.
- May participate in the evaluation of freelance interpreters
- May function as Programming Officer.
- May perform other related duties, as required.

Education
A first level degree from a university or from an institution of equivalent status is required.
Job - Specific Qualification
A Master's degree is desirable.
Having passed the United Nations Competitive Examination for Spanish Interpreters is required.
Work Experience
At least five (5) years of professional interpreting experience in international organizations is required.
Languages
Excellent command is defined as at least two "Confident" ratings out of the four language fields.
