**OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME**

The mission of WHO's UHC/Healthier Populations Division is to contribute to reducing health inequalities and reducing preventable disease and injury caused by environmental, social and economic determinants of health. This is achieved through a coordinated inter-sectoral approach aimed at enabling all people to enjoy better health and well-being, in line with the Organization's 13th General Programme of Work (GPW13) and the Sustainable Development Goals. The Department of Nutrition and Food safety is addressing the burden of disease from physical,chemical and microbial hazards in food and unhealthy diets, maternal and child malnutrition, overweight and obesity. The Department aims to ensure universal access to safe, sufficient nutritious food and effective nutrition actions, through setting science-based international food standards, promoting nutrition action in health systems, fostering sustainable food production and consumption,improving food environments and empowering consumers in all situations,monitoring nutrition status, and managing food safety events at the international level, closely working with Member States, UN partner agencies and non-State actors. The cross-cutting team on safe, healthy and sustainable diets is coordinating the Department engagement with UN partner agencies and non-State actors, by developing partnership strategies, facilitating alignment to partnerships across the Department and promoting new partnerships when needed.

**DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES**

1. Develops engagement strategies with UN partners, non-State actors and Parliamentarians and relevant support tools, including for example data bases of potential partners, profiles of partners and identification of good practices.

2. Maps and evaluates WHO engagements with the UN, parliamentarians, civil society, the private sector, philanthropies, academia relevant to nutrition and food safety and suggests approaches to align to identified engagement strategies, across NFS units

3. Manages the engagement with partners that involve multiple units, by convening meetings, supporting communication and collaboration, supporting joint initiatives. Supports the initial stages of new partnerships (such as the Coalition on Healthy diet and the I-CAN) and facilitates the transfer of responsibilities to the most relevant Units.

4. Develops tools for supporting country engagement with non-State actors, including the update of the tool for assessing the conflict of interest.

5.Develops new partnerships when needed and instructed by the department director.

6. Represents NFS and the position of the WHO nutrition agenda on relevant issues at interdepartmental meetings within the Organizations well as at policy, scientific and expert meetings inside and outside the organization, and undertake for WHO and also for NFS, other activities as designated by Director, NFS.

7. Guides, manages and monitor the work programming priorities and activities of the cross-cutting team on safe, healthy and sustainable diet, including clear allocation of responsibilities to staff in vertical Units, in agreement with the respective Unit Heads, using the RASCI framework.

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**

**Education**

**Essential**:
Master’s degree in epidemiology, food or nutrition science, social or political science related to the functions of the position.

**Desirable**:
Additional training in public health, political science, law, preferably with emphasis on foodborne diseases and/or nutrition.

**Experience**

**Essential**:
A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in food and nutrition policies, of which at least five years of experience at the international level collaborating with national and regional institutions and networks.

**Desirable**:
1. Experience in advocacy and health education for the prevention of foodborne diseases and/or for nutrition.
2. Experience in working with international governmental and non-governmental organizations in food and nutrition.
3. Experience in working in or with low-income countries.

**Skills**

1. Extensive knowledge in nutrition science, public health nutrition, social and behavioral sciences.

2. Strong managerial, analytical and strategic skills, as well as skills in policy negotiation, advocacy ability, leadership and team-building skills.

3. Ability to design, implement and monitor programmes and manage resources.
4. Ability to work collaboratively, and harmoniously within the Department, across WHO and with other agencies.
