The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.
- identifying major knowledge gaps in green growth theory and practice and addressing these gaps through the promotion of collaboration and coordinated research; and
- using world-class knowledge management and communication tools to provide practitioners, policymakers, and other experts with opportunities to access, share, and utilize green growth policy analysis, guidance, information, and data.
The Economy Division/ GGKP internship is for six (6) months.
Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
**Responsibilities**:
Under the direct supervision of various programme leads in the GGKP and the overall guidance of the Head of the GGKP Secretariat, and based on the interests of the intern as well as the needs of the team at the time of the internship, the intern will engage in the following activities under one or more of the GGKP workstreams:
- Green Industry Platform
- Support the management of national and regional networks of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) supporting organisations and related communication activities;
- Support the development and deployment of online tools and solutions to help SMEs easily access resource efficiency support and implement targeted actions;
- Identify and review resource efficiency knowledge products (technical guidance, case studies and training) and support services (training, technical assistance and financing) for SMEs;
- Research resource efficiency-based initiatives being delivered by leading organizations to support the development of a global initiative mapping and analysis project.
- Research Programme
- Identify, assess, collect and categorize green growth resources to be part of the GGKP resource library, including green growth research, data and case studies;
- Identify and collect information on projects being carried out by GGKP partners and other leading organizations in the field of green growth;
- Collect and draft, as appropriate, meeting summaries, background notes and abstracts of green growth research and analysis;
- Support the GGKP office in organizing research-related meetings and web contents.
- Communications and Community Development
- Draft, edit and promote digital and printed promotional and informational materials on green growth topics;
- Contribute to the development of GGKP’s online community space, the Green Forum, by providing support in drafting, curating posts, moderating discussion groups and updating thematic pages.
