About the team you are joining
IATA's Energy Transition department works with airlines, regulators and civil society to develop and implement policies and standards that support the sustainable development of air transport and mitigate its impact on the environment. You will join the team responsible for advocating for all climate change related policies, including decarbonization and sustainability efforts. One of our main responsibilities is to contribute to the development and achievement of our strategy for the successful implementation of global regulations for the aviation environment policies.
What your day would be like
The Manager Commercial Fuel supports and drives the development and implementation strategies and initiatives in the fuel operations and digitalization areas, and runs and delivers on advocacy efforts covering both conventional jet fuel and Sustainable Aviation Fuel, that relate to pricing, charges and fees, supply chain, storage, and supply markets.
To do this, close cooperation, dialogue and negotiation with a wide range of stakeholders are required e.g. airline’s fuel departments, airports, oil companies and fuel suppliers, and national, regional and local authorities.
The results of these initiatives and campaigns are a major contributor to IATA relevance and value-add to its members and the industry and help deliver the SAF ramp-up, improved service levels, efficiency and cost savings, as well as competitive pricing of supply markets for our member interests. This role includes:
- Being an integral member of the commercial fuel team to drive and support achievement of the team’s global objectives and targets
- Initiating, leading and delivering IATA advocacy efforts relating to conventional jet fuel and Sustainable Aviation Fuel in specific regions, to achieve agreed industry targets
- Developing and leading industry activities and projects relating to fuel infrastructure and operations together with the technical fuel team, in order to improve fueling safety, efficiency and supply reliability.
- Developing and agreeing a clear roadmap to deliver the digitalization and IT standards and tools as required by the aviation fuel community.
- Liaising closely with all airline fuel representatives and fuel supplier representatives to ensure IATA leadership or influence to reach desired objectives
- Contributing to the development and running of the bi-annual IATA Aviation Energy Forum, webinars, as well as the airline and SP newsletters, including development of content, delivery of sponsorship and attracting new SP members
- Building up information, benchmarking and best practices and determining opportunities and actions to deliver benefits to IATA member airlines.
We would love to hear from you if you have:
- Experience related to jet/SAF production, supply or procurement or demonstrable equivalent knowledge
- Stakeholder contacts and credibility within the jet fuel and SAF industry
- University degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Economics, Accounting or Political Science, or equivalent experience
- Airlines or aviation supplier industry experience, particularly in fields of economics, finance, purchasing or operations. Experience in Fuel/SAF Purchasing is an advantage.
- Strong analytical and logical abilities with strong organizational skills to deal with many unrelated matters on concurrent basis
- Strong negotiation, influencing and conflict resolution skills with positive approach to problem solving
- Understanding of regulatory and competition matters
- Demonstrated competence in management of complex, multi-faceted campaigns and initiatives
- Strong interpersonal skills and diplomacy to deal with people at different levels and with different communications and presentation skills
- Flexibility and willingness to travel internationally
