Why we are recruiting
The World Economic Forum, committed to improving the state of the world, is the international organization for public-private cooperation. It engages the foremost political, business and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.
The Forum is working towards finding solutions to the global challenges including, among others, an active engagement and drive towards accelerating actions on climate change and environmental sustainability, through the Centre for Nature and Climate (CNC). As part of this, the “Ocean Action Agenda” at the World Economic Forum is a vibrant network of initiatives and partnerships run in collaboration with key institutions, governments, and the private sector. The aim of the Ocean Action Agenda is to raise ambition for a healthy ocean, translate targets into concrete action, drive change in the way ocean is managed, to ultimately realize the potential of a sustainable thriving ocean for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Forum’s Ocean Action Agenda is funded by philanthropic organisations and governments. Its team is based in different locations including the Forum’s Geneva, New York, San Francisco and Beijing offices, and works closely with Hub Ocean in Oslo, Norway.
This position plays a central role in the strategic planning of OAA engagements and events, supports the coordination within the OAA team as well as with the Nature Pillar of the Centre for Nature and Climate, and will help define a new business engagement strategy. This position will also manage our primary multistakeholder community, the
Friends of Ocean Action
, a global community of leaders working towards the achievement of SDG14 (Life underwater).
Reporting lines and interactions
The role will be based at the World Economic Forum’s Geneva office, within the Ocean Action Agenda team, reporting to the Head, Ocean Action Agenda. Internally, this person will work with colleagues in the OAA and the broader Centre for Nature and Climate, as well as a wider range of other colleagues in the Business Engagement and Partner Development teams. Externally this person will work with a broad range of stakeholders, including partner companies in the consumer goods, retail, energy, finance and other industries, as well as with governments, international and non-governmental organizations.
Main responsibilities
- OAA Business engagement._- Lead the development of the OAA business engagement strategy, including the review of existing partnerships, formal engagements through the Forum’s platforms, and development of a plan to increase engagement through the creation of value for partners;- Lead the roll out of OAA business engagement strategy, including creating opportunities for, and ensuring active participation of OAA members in various projects, events and activities;- Consult regularly with the OAA content leads to seek updates on the different workstreams and discuss engagement opportunities, as well as key partners in the OAA related networks, in order to support the successful implementation of the projects;- Ensure coordination with the CNC Business engagement team to help develop and identify valuable engagement points for existing and new partners as needed. Help develop the CNC value proposition by providing concrete engagement opportunities for business and other constituents;- Seek and support linkages between OAA, and other relevant Forum projects and organizations, particularly by further collaborating with the CNC Nature Positive pillar
- FOA community curation_- Lead the development of the- FOA community
- engagement strategy, including the revision of the FOA partnership base, manage and build relationships with key FOA members from business, government, civil society and academia;- Lead the roll out of FOA’s engagement strategy, including creating opportunities for, and ensuring active participation of FOA members in various projects, events and activities;- Coordinate community calls and activities, including the preparation of targeted campaigns to mobilize the FOA community towards specific asks to advance ocean sustainability;- Seek and support linkages between FOA, and other relevant Forum projects and organizations, particularly by further collaborating with the CNC, Business Engagement and industry teams to align on engagement opportunities for current and prospective partner organizations
