**Job Summary**

The External Affairs Manager of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) is a contractor-only position that manages the Society’s annual External Relations strategy incorporating global public health organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), regulatory bodies and country / regional governments such as the European Union (EU). More specifically, this position is for an experienced, strategic thinking advocacy and policy professional with excellent planning skills to manage our External Relations projects.

The role encompasses the co-development and management of a comprehensive External Relations strategy, aligning closely with the ISTH mission to expand its influence and visibility. This includes the establishment, promotion, and maintenance of relationships with key stakeholders, focusing on politicians (with an emphasis on prioritized European and national parliaments), policy makers (especially within the EU and prioritized health attaches), and international health and regulatory bodies such as EMA, ECDC, WHO, UN, NIH, CDC, and others. The position also involves cultivating meaningful connections with essential civil society and academic partners. Furthermore, the incumbent will spearhead a robust approach to evaluating policy, advocacy, and associated research activities, underscoring the impact and value of ISTH initiatives.

**Job Requirements**

**Strategic Planning**:

- In consultation with the External Relations Committee, the External Relations manager will develop and finalize the annual strategy; work plans and contributes to the effective development and delivery of ISTH’s public affairs priorities.
- Recommend and coordinate the production of a wide range of high quality written outputs for various audiences including well-targeted research reports, policy briefings, newsletters, blogs and other outputs.
- Together with the Director and External Relations Committee, working with a range of partners including external partners, think tanks and academic researchers.
- Encourage and oversee the appropriate engagement of External Relations Committee members and liaise closely with colleagues to ensure ISTH policy, advocacy and research program contributes to the delivery of key strategic priorities.
- Develop, deliver and review advocacy campaigns as appropriate working closely with the team and External Relations Committee.
- Identify EU funding sources to support ISTH policy and advocacy work as well as research opportunities for ISTH members.
- Provide advice, counsel and support the External Relations Committee of the ISTH and its European Alliance of Thrombosis and Haemostasis
- Support the development of an annual plan of External Relations activities and assess KPIs alongside the ISTH Director of Membership, Marketing and External Affairs.
- Develop an approach to evaluating ISTH’s public affairs activities to demonstrate the impact and value of what we do.

**Stakeholder Relationship Management**:

- Establish, promote and maintain relationships with politicians, policy makers, external agencies, ISTH members, patient groups, think tanks and collaborations/alliances and other members of civil society sector to influence the health and research agenda of the EU, Member States and WHO to ensure the best possible operating environment for the ISTH and effective policies that can deliver real benefits for thrombosis and hemostasis health globally.
- Experience in engaging with politicians (European and national Parliaments) and policy makers (EU and national).
- Build and nurture relationships with external agencies (i.e. EMA, ECDC, EMCDDA, WHO, UN, NIH, etc.)

**Networking**:

- Develop and lead efforts to engage with civil society and academic partners.
- Foster connections with key audiences to enhance ISTH's standing in the field.
- Update job knowledge and skills by participating in continuous professional development, i.e. training, professional/trade publications, maintaining personal networks and membership of relevant professional organizations.

**Evaluation and Impact Assessment**:

- Support the development of an annual policy and research budget and business plan activities and KPIs alongside the ISTH Director of Membership, Marketing and External Affairs.
- Develop and implement a robust approach to evaluating policy, advocacy, and research activities to demonstrate the impact and value of what we do.

**Global Public Health Collaboration**:

- Coordinate on behalf of the ISTH with global public health organizations, including the United Nations (UN),
