As Application Manager, you report directly to the Head of Marketing BUPC.
This is a permanent position with a flexible start date.

Mission :
  • The Application Manager ensures that BOBST is perceived as "go-to" Expert for end-to-end solutions in the industry.
  • He makes sure that Product Lines (PL) have/will have the right solutions for the right price at the right time for the industry stakeholders for his industry - he knows the future of packaging solutions & understands the trends
  • He focus on how to change the entire packaging specification end to end (from raw material, through the filling line, to the final product on the shelf till end of life) to meet the market requirements (Brand owner & converter business and production pain points)
  • He enables the PL/Production Management to translate market trends / Brand Owner needs and new requested packaging solutions into products, solution offerings and business cases.
  • Ensuring that the sales has the proper knowledge for the generated products, solution offerings and business cases.
  • Success in Solution Sales (gross margin and Sales) / Success in new Products / Solutions offered since Appl. Management started
Key responsibilities :
  • Strategy :
    • Selling Productivity: Translating the industry trends, customer business and production pain points into BOBST / PL products, business cases, new business models, solution offerings, etc. (Output - agreed with PLs: NPI Roadmaps, Vision Deployment Roadmap, IOT Roadmap, Sustainability Roadmap)
    • Supports the PL Heads to define the Process R&D Roadmap as an important driver of the PL Strategy (Barrier Coating Process for CB/FC, Future of Lamination Processes, Digital Printing in FlexPack, E-Beam, oneECG, etc.)
  • Business Development :
    • Contact and project generation with brand owners - strategic and opportunistic - and partners
    • Participates and represents BOBST in selected Associations and Events - in alignment with GroupCom and PLs
    • Supports the Key Account Management Organization to enrich the communication from operational towards strategic discussions
    • Engage with Converter CEO, Converter Sales, Converter R&D (not only site management / production management)
  • Training and Knowledge Sharing:
    • Ensures Knowledge Transfer and Internal Trainings
    • Supports BOBST Connect with Inputs regarding Application and Business Case relevant information (for example about substrates, consumables, inks, adhesives, etc. )


Professional & personal skills :
  • Minimum 10 years' experience as Business Development, Application Manager, Product Manager, Technical Sales Manager at a Converter (Flexible Packaging, Labels, Folding Carton, Corrugated Board) or Packaging Expert / Specialist at Brand Owners or in the packaging industry
  • Likes to travel 50% of the time
  • Able to set up TCO tools and Job Basket Analysis for End-To-End Application Approach considering multi technology processes and production realities in the packaging industry
  • Know-How in IOT and Industry 4.0 and understanding the trends and vision of Smart Manufacturing
  • Technical / Process oriented approach (chemistry degree / engineering degree / etc.)
  • Knowing all industry stakeholders from machine manufacturer, ink, adhesive and consumables suppliers
  • Knowing main production technologies and machines by heart (all printing technologies incl workflow management for digital printing and flexo, lamination, converting, metallizing, etc.)
  • Knowledge about Food Law, Sustainability, Recyclability trends and challenges, etc.
  • Used to exposure to Senior Management at BOBST, Converters and Brand Owners
  • Likes to work with Facts & Figures, KPIs and Data (Excel based)
  • Experience with working in international Teams in a Matrix Organization / Strong Team Player
  • Ready to start something from scratch - being part of the journey
  • Powerful and charismatic Speaker, Presenter and Trainer
  • High Skills and Experience in Change Management
  • Used to work and follow confidential business environment

The production site of Mex, near Lausanne in Switzerland, is also the headquarters of the Bobst Group. It is the most important site, employing approx. 1500 passionate people.
