Job Description Summary
Location: Basel, Switzerland
About the Role:
Lead the development and execution of a strategic approach to advance perception and coverage of Novartis by Global and Swiss media, ensuring positive or balanced earned media coverage that profiles Novartis in accordance with core narrative and themes. Drive Novartis reputational advancement through establishing and maintaining constructive relationships with Swiss and select Global top tier outlets, with proactive and reactive engagement across enquiries, earned, placed, and paid media, and events. Collaborate closely across Corporate Communications and with colleagues with media relations accountability across wider Corporate Affairs function and in country organizations, to ensure strategic and operational alignment on key activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and execution of a strategic approach to advance perception and coverage of Novartis by Global and Swiss media.
- Accountable for leading engagement with Global and Swiss media stakeholders and building relationships that facilitate Novartis reputational advancement, with proactive and reactive engagement across enquiries, earned, placed, and paid media, and events.
- Lead efficient and appropriate coordination of global top tiers media engagement ensuring positive or balanced earned media coverage that profiles Novartis in accordance with core narrative and themes.
- Collaborate closely across Corporate Communications and with colleagues with media relations accountability across wider Corporate Affairs function and in country organizations, to ensure strategic alignment on key activities.
- Execute media strategy on enterprise-wide issues and crisis management.
- Provide strategic leadership and direction to Senior Manager on overall corporate editorial calendar across Corporate Communications.
- Develop an approach for routinely benchmarking peer company media relations approaches, for strategic view of best practices externally within and beyond industry, insights to position Novartis ahead of peers.
- Accountable for managing and developing Senior Manager, Global Media Operations & Editorial, maximizing their potential and collective contribution to the team.
- Understand the external environment for the enterprise and business, as well as key stakeholder needs, and lead Global and Swiss media engagement accordingly, ultimately advancing company goals.
- Along with Corporate Reputation & Narrative team colleagues, collective accountability for working with A&I to set and track the desired company reputational state and intent for priority audiences, with strategic adjustment and tactical decision-making accordingly to meet defined outcomes.
- Exemplify a predictive mindset; seeks multidirectional insights to understand our environments and stakeholders, and embrace iterative, measurable experimentation and action.
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Extensive experience in communications, preferably in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry, with track record in media strategy and relations.
- Strong view across industry topics, trends and issues, best practices for media engagement to advance perception and coverage by Global and Swiss media.
- Excellent leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders under time pressure and achieve results.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to develop and implement innovative approaches and build relationships that facilitate Novartis reputational advancement.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and the ability to serve as a key interface with various internal functions.
- Understanding of legal, regulatory, and corporate requirements for media engagement and activities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex information to senior management and external stakeholders.
- Adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
