IMPACT Initiatives is a humanitarian think tank, based in Geneva, Switzerland. POSITION OVERVIEW

We are currently looking for a Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning Intern to join IMPACT’s global Research Team in Geneva, Switzerland.

The overall objective of the Research Department is to ensure all IMPACT research cycles are meeting/ exceeding internal standards, wider academic research standards and overall research ethics in the research methods, data processing/ analysis, data interpretation/ visualisation and research reporting practices being used. The Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Unit aims to promote learning and accountability for improved research approaches both within IMPACT and in the humanitarian sector more widely. It requires having a strong MEL system in place to track successes, lessons learned and limitations across research activities in order to identify and develop relevant capacity sharing activities aimed at strengthening research practices. The MEL system has two main components: 1) a M&E process to better understand the uptake of research findings and the impact of our work, and 2) a lessons learned process to identify best practices and common challenges faced implementing research in the field. The MEL intern will support with these two processes, including compiling and analysing related data and drafting key findings. Based on these terms of reference and initial briefings, the selected candidate, in close collaboration with the Sr Research Manager, will develop upon the start of the internship a specific set of objectives and a work plan, which will be reviewed at regular intervals during the internship period and will serve as a basis for evaluation upon completion of the internship.

REQUIREMENTS

Required

  • Good academic qualifications, including a Bachelor or Master’s degree in relevant discipline (e.g. Social Sciences, Economics, Anthropology, Statistics, Assessment, Monitoring & Evaluation, International Relations, Political Sciences, or similar)
  • Strong motivation and interest in improving research in the humanitarian and development sector
  • Good working knowledge in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Fluency in oral and written English
  • Openness to feedback and willingness to learn
  • Ability to manage time effectively and to thrive in a fast paced, results-oriented environment
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high quality work
  • Ability to work independently, with initiative, and strong capacity to work in intercultural team
  • Fluency in French and/ or Spanish
  • Familiarity with the humanitarian aid system
  • Good understanding of research methods within the field of social sciences (quantitative and qualitative)
  • Volunteering experience related to international solidarity, either at home or abroad
  • Experience with M&E or primary research, especially in an international context
CONDITIONS
  • For this position, gross salary is 1,450 CHF monthly (before income tax). NB – IMPACT salaries are strictly determined by our salary grid depending on the grade of the position and the level of education and experience of staff. A contribution to medical insurance of 520 CHF per month is already included in the salary figure.
  • Insurance covering professional and non-professional accidents throughout the period of employment with IMPACT
  • Health insurance, life insurance and repatriation assistance in case of field visits/temporary deployments
  • Enrolment in IMPACT Initiatives Research Foundational Learning Programme within the first 3 months from the start of contract.
  • Applicants must hold a valid work permit for Switzerland or be EU/EFTA citizens
  • Up to 40% of remote work on a weekly basis
