Job Description

Your responsibilities


As an Electrical Engineer within the Cabling Section of the Engineering Department ([EN])), you'll play a key role in expanding, strengthening, and maintaining CERN's signal and power cable installations, required for various systems within the CERN accelerators.

You will work on the Personnel Safety System Consolidation (PSS-CONS) whose scope is to refurbish the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) Personnel Safety Systems, reaching their end-of-life after 20 years of continuous operation.


During the performance of your duties, you will have the opportunity to manage cabling projects, to be in contact with different equipment's experts, and to participate in technical discussions in scope of the design of cable systems.


The role includes technical and organizational tasks:

  • Analyse requests for new cable circuits or modifications into existing ones
  • Participate to site surveys
  • Elaborate on technical proposals that meet the requirements
  • Ensure compliance of the cabling systems with standards, rules and regulations
  • Define budget and planning
  • Participation to project, coordination and mechanical integration meetings
  • Establish project documents (reports, specifications, spending profile, etc.) and review of documents prepared by contractors/other groups
  • Prepare the documentation for the execution by CERN's contractor in charge of the installation of electrical systems
  • Organize, supervise and ensure safety on your worksites, requiring interactions with contractors and CERN users from other groups/departments
  • Ensure comprehensive and timely reporting
  • Development of quality plans and procedures

Your profile
Skills and/or knowledge

  • Experience in the domain of electrical cables for signal transmission and power distribution.
  • Experience in the domain of connectors for signal and power cables.
  • Initial experience in electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a [CERN Member or Associate Member State]).
  • You have a professional background in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) and have either:

  • Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a
PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.

  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

  • Work in Radiation Areas.
