Job Description

Job Summary

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is seeking a highly skilled Junior Electrical Engineer to join its Beams Department. As a member of the BE-EA-EC cabling team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and CERN's experiments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the team leader and engineering team in studying, executing, and coordinating complex technical cabling projects.
  • Identify needs and requirements from users and participate in the construction and assembly phases of equipment.
  • Prepare technical studies and cost estimations, read electrical drawings, and participate in workshop activities for assembling cabling, connectors, and electrical equipment.
  • Support the procurement of material and services, participate in work and reception tests on CERN site, and prepare project documents (reports, change requests, specifications, etc.).
  • Develop quality plans and documents, participate in project and coordination meetings, and support the ongoing training for team members on new technologies and best practices in cabling.

Requirements

  • Professional experience in the electrical domain.
  • Initial experience with industry standards and electrical safety systems.
  • Experience using related electrical software packages would be an advantage.
  • Ability to manage several activities simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Good writing skills.
  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You are a national of a country.
  • You have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

What We Offer

  • A monthly stipend ranging between 5134 and 5647 Swiss Francs (net of tax).
  • Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse, and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
  • Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child, and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.
  • 30 days of paid leave per year.
  • On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.
