Position Overview:


The R&D department needs support to produce and test material samples, research, develop and validate new or existing material solutions and processes including tool design optimisation.

This may involve being assigned to a long-running development project with important responsibilities and / or smaller supporting tasks for the R&D team.


Qualifications and Personal Qualities:

  • B.Sc. (or equivalent) in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Interest and experience in composite manufacturing and materials science.
  • Knowledge and understanding of standard test methods for composites.
  • Some experience in coding and data analysis (Octave, Python or others) is a plus.
  • Driving curiosity for independent problem solving.
  • Able to work autonomously and share relevant information with the team.
  • Structured way of working with an ability to handle many projects in parallel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English. French or German is a plus.

Main tasks and Responsabilities:

The list below is meant to illustrate the tasks you might be asked to do. It is not fixed and can be dis-cussed with Bcomp depending on your strength and Bcomp's needs.

  • Processing of thermoset and thermoplastic composite parts for testing / sampling

epoxy resin infusion, autoclave, compression moulding,_

  • Explore the influence of matrices on mechanical properties of composite parts
/ _Skills:

samples preparation, 3-points bending, DMA analysis._

  • Develop a method to optically characterize fabrics' distortion
/ _Skills:

image processing, coding._

  • Characterize materials' UV resistance, moisture absorption, colors and other properties
/ _Skills:

following test standards, dynamic moisture sorption, spectrophotometry._

  • Support R&D and Quality team in characterizing and validating products
/ _Skills:

basics of automotive quality and validation processes._

We offer:

  • 1'500 CHF / month gross salary (pro rata)
  • 2.5 weeks paid vacation for 6 months (pro rata)
  • High level of expertise to learn from and progress on composite manufacturing, testing, design, life cycle analysis, etc.
