About this part of our organisation:

Our Zinc Assets in Australia include multiple geographically dispersed operations, including underground and open pit mines, processing plants, and port facilities. Additionally, we have operations across Asia, the North and South American continents, and Europe. Brisbane is home to our corporate office, which is where this role is based.

About your new position in Brisbane:

Your primary purpose will be to assist the Long-Term Planning Superintendent in ensuring the Long-Term Planning Team's safety, performance, and work quality. The Senior Long-Term Planning Engineer is responsible for key business planning deliverables, including the life of the asset (LoA) plan and the estimation and reporting of Reserves as per the JORC Code.

To deliver on that purpose, some of your responsibilities will be:
  • Responsible for developing mine plans and designs, considering factors such as deposit characteristics, geotechnical considerations, safety regulations and environmental impacts.
  • Determining the most efficient and cost-effective methods for extracting minerals.
  • Deliver life of asset schedules in Deswik Scheduler in collaboration with the Mid-Term Planning Team.
  • Perform reconciliation on executed mine plans to track design and operational performance for continuous improvement purposes.
  • Ensure that any design or sequence changes are communicated and documented.
  • Estimation of Reserves for George Fisher Mine for reporting as per the JORC Code.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and productivity. •
  • Analyse operational data, conduct audits and implement strategies to optimise processes, reduce costs, and maximise mineral recovery.
  • Conduct and/or manage trade-off and feasibility studies to justify and optimise ventilation, material handling, and other mine-related infrastructure.
  • Responsible for developing, leading and supporting Engineers and other personnel (Consultants).
  • Providing guidance, support, and mentorship and maintaining a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Our expectations about you:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering (or similar)
  • >5 years of experience in underground base metals operations, ideally in sub-level or long hole open stoping operations. Polymetallic experience will be viewed favourably.
  • Proven ability to supervise and mentor other engineers and specialists in mine planning.
  • Attend site (Mt Isa), ideally monthly, to maintain awareness of requirements for assistance and conduct information/ training session with site Technical and Operational Departments.
  • Advanced design and scheduling software skills, particularly with a working knowledge of Deswik.CAD and Deswik, Scheduler.
  • Ability to sign off as a Competent Person (JORC) and Qualified Person (NI43-101) on Ore Reserve reporting for underground open stoping operations will be viewed favourably.
