Job Summary
The Business Analyst (Requirements Engineering) is responsible for driving the definition and documentation of business requirements, writing specifications as part of the backlog, and sprint planning activities in collaboration with the Product Manager. The role is critical in identifying, analyzing, elucidating, and documenting business needs to ensure clear and actionable requirements that support effective and efficient software development and delivery of business and customer value.
Tasks & Responsibilities
As a Business Analyst you will:
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather and clarify business requirements.
• Analyze requirements and specifications through thorough examination of data (web analytics, logs, SEO, user research data, etc.) and documentation.
• Document and model functional and non-functional requirements using standardized methods and tools (Product Requirement Documents).
• Lead the planning and execution of sprint activities to ensure alignment with business goals.
• Serve as a liaison for development teams, providing detailed insights into functional and non-functional requirements.
• Support various departments, including product, editorial, production, and finance, by translating business needs into actionable specifications.
• Advocate and implement best practices in requirements engineering and sprint planning throughout the organization.
Requirements
• Educational background: a university degree (Masters preferred) in Information Systems or Computer Science. Alternatively, a Masters in a business-related field with strong track record and work experience.
• General Work Experience: 2-7 years of experience as a business analyst, product owner, technical product manager, or equivalent experience in a related role, such as a software engineer working on enterprise applications.
Skills:
• Strong communicator.
• Strong understanding of modern software development and testing practices
• Strong requirements elicitation and analysis skills, with the ability to gather, interpret, and document detailed business requirements.
• Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, capable of identifying requirements-related issues and proposing effective solutions.
• Proficiency in requirements specification and documentation, with experience in creating detailed specifications and user stories.
• Understanding of agile project management and sprint planning principles according to Scrum.
• A continuous improvement mindset.
Additional requirements:
• Publishing industry knowledge is a plus.
• Proficiency in SQL, Business Intelligence tools or scripting is a plus.
