Job Purpose

The VP, Global Medical Lead, dostarlimab is a key senior business leadership role, reporting to the VP, Global Medical Affairs Oncology TA Head who is a key member of GSK’s Global Medical Leadership Team. 

The leader will have full responsibility for the Global Medical Strategy for dostarlimab. The Global Medical Strategy Lead will lead the translation of our science to shape the practice of medicine and deliver positive health impact for patients by providing healthcare decision-makers around the world with the evidence and confidence they need on GSK therapies, and influencing internal stakeholders with medical insight and expertise related to Development and Commercialization strategies. The role will be accountable for the Medical strategic direction of an Asset or Portfolio of assets and the matrix leadership of the Global Asset Medical Leadership Team, integrating innovative strategies that advance patient care and help shape the practice of medicine. The role will partner with key markets to ensure that their insights are used to inform all evidence, asset/vaccine development and strategic deliverables as well as partnering across Commercial and R&D to deliver value for patients.

In addition to leading the Global Medical Leadership team for dostarlimab, the incumbent will be a member of several additional matrix teams including the Medicines Development Team and the Medicine Commercial Team where he or she will provide Medical insight and expertise to inform and influence evidence generation and scientific communication plans across the lifecycle to optimize patient impact within markets.

A key focus of the role is to develop and stretch self and team to be best in the industry at delivering impact for patients and improving patient care paradigms.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the cross-functional global medical team and influence product development at the global level As chair of the global medical team

Jointly accountable for developing the global medical brand strategy and plans for a product by convening the global medical team

Set direction along strategic framework of the medical brand plan including setting scientific objectives, own the medical scientific narrative and the integrated communication planAccountable for directing and coordinating global resources to generate data and create content to support priority markets, leveraging the expertise of the Global operations team and Global data teamRepresent medical in cross-functional strategy meetings and workshops, and proactively offer options for innovative medical strategy for the IAP at the MDT and MCT meetingsProvide focused support at key inflection points during development (e.g., launch) As Lead and Chair of the cross-functional global medical team Responsible for representing the voice of the CPO organisation for a priority productAccountable for all medical activities related to product development at the global levelLead, coach, and mentor direct reports that support the global medical in development of medical brand strategy and plans, and execute and/or support execution of global tacticsAddress broader holistic disease area considerations as they arise by convening other relevant medical leads ad-hocPlay an active role within TA to articulate and implement a single, unified medical strategy across portfolio 

Enterprise Leadership:

Maximize the positive impact for patients and GSK from early development to maturity (defined as no further significant clinical evidence generation). Act as a partner to the MDL and MCL, ensure integrated and thoughtful insights from across a diverse stakeholder set contribute to shaping the medicines vision, development strategy and clinical development in the early phases of development, and for refining medical strategy as clinical evidence is generated. Ensure that medical insights from the priority markets are incorporated into the GMT to inform all evidence, product development, and asset strategy deliverables. Accountable for leading the GMT in the development and delivery of the Global medical product strategy and associated global deliverables enabling prioritized LOCs to execute the strategy and deliver positive patient impact locally. Ensure that the evidence generation plan aligns to identified unmet needs and prioritized evidence gaps and addresses key medical and market access requirements, maximizing the asset competitiveness from launch through lifecycle management for priority markets Lead a global matrix team that executes on generation of evidence, publication plans and creation of content to support the priority markets to shape the practice of medicine and differentiate our medicines and vaccines. Act as medical Launch lead, partnering with cross-functional partners and priority markets to ensure timely and ambitious launches Support the cross-functional team, in partnership with the MDL and MCL for the development of ambitious LCI plans Lead regular assessment of medical plan impact utilizing the medical impact framework, ensuring plan reviews and proactive communication of impact measures to key stakeholders as required Oversee asset budget to ensure that resources are deployed against the highest the highest impact tactics Ensure that Global deliverables are produced on time based on market needs Use a Global mindset, incorporating local perspectives, to strategy development and decision making. Partner with priority markets to understand their needs and balance options to achieve the set-out goals.

Qualifications

Basic

MD/MBBS/PharmD or PhD in clinical / scientific discipline Experience working in oncology medical affairs Experience as an oncology medical lead at the tier 1 local level or country medical director at tier 2/3 level Experience directing the strategy of an asset at a global level Experience working in solid tumors Experience working in clinical development Experience of launching an asset at local and global level Asset lifecycle management experience at local and global level

Preferred

Oncologist with a number of years experience working in medical affairs Strong demonstration of strategic and medical leadership with scientific agility. Good understanding and knowledge of core principles in how to use clinical data, guide strategic use of clinical data, and understand implementation of clinical studies. Being the critical interaction with external experts (physicians) in the therapeutic area - requiring a high level of medical knowledge/experience, understanding of patient management, and strong clinical judgement on benefit- risk significance. Keeping up to date on scientific data and competitive intelligence and having the ability to transform knowledge and medical insights into patient-centred strategic thinking and transfer to action plans to drive strategies to win. Ability to manage ambiguity, evaluate benefit and risk and take appropriate accountability for decision making - enterprise leader with business acumen and agility to create business outputs in a VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity) environment. Collaborative matrix management skills with a focus on leading diverse groups (e.g., cultural, geographical, functional) to achieve excellent results in shared goals. Strong financial/budget and project management skills as well as business acumen. Experience supporting an indication as part of a cross functional team including creation of a competitive and accessible TPP. General understanding of statistics, safety, regulatory requirements, including dossier preparation. Skilled at simultaneous consideration of scientific data and practical healthcare delivery needs from diverse health systems to optimise medical implementation of innovation.
