About The Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our dynamic and growing team. In this pivotal role, you will provide strategic legal guidance across all aspects of our business and help shape the regulatory foundation of next-generation financial markets.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a strong background in financial regulation, capital markets, or blockchain technology, and the ambition to grow into the Head of Legal position. You will play a key role in advancing Obligate's mission to revolutionize global capital markets through decentralized finance — ensuring legal excellence, compliance, and innovation go hand in hand.
Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal counsel across a wide range of areas, including financial regulation, DLT legislation, product law, corporate law, and compliance.
• Partner closely with the product and engineering teams to ensure new platform features and infrastructure developments meet all regulatory and legal requirements.
• Advise on complex transactions, including collateral structures, ensuring full regulatory compliance and risk mitigation.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts and agreements related to our products, partnerships, and operations.
• Act as the company's AML Officer with our Self-Regulatory Organization (SRO), overseeing compliance with all applicable anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regulations.
• Liaise with external legal advisors and regulatory authorities to ensure consistent alignment with best practices and evolving frameworks.
• Monitor and interpret global regulatory developments, particularly those impacting distributed ledger technology (DLT) and digital asset markets, to proactively guide business decisions.

What We're Looking For

• Proven Track Record: You have demonstrated success in a legal advisory role within a law firm, a startup, or a financial institution, ideally with exposure to fintech or blockchain. You bring strong expertise in regulatory and DLT frameworks, securities law, and a solid understanding of financing contracts. Experience in structured finance, derivatives, and collaborating with product and technology teams is a strong plus.
• Strategic Thinker: You excel at analyzing complex legal and business challenges, providing structured, pragmatic, and forward-thinking solutions that support innovation while managing risk.
• Hands-On Mindset: As part of a fast-moving startup, you're comfortable wearing multiple hats and tackling a broad range of legal topics — including those outside your immediate area of expertise.
