Lead Payroll Operations for a Global Sustainability Leader

Primary Purpose of this Position:
The Manager, Regional Payroll is responsible for leading a team of Payroll Specialists to ensure the seamless execution of payroll processes within our Global Business Services environment. The Manager, Regional Payroll is integral to delivering accurate and timely payroll services to business operations, driving global standardization and optimization of payroll processes across Ball.

What will you be responsible for?

Strategically manage the end-to-end execution of various operational tasks within the business process areas, ensuring adherence to established procedures, timelines and compliance requirements.Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of process analysts, specialists and coordinators, providing guidance, coaching and support to ensure their success and professional growth.Monitor team performance and individual contributions, conducting regular performance assessments and providing constructive feedback. Foster a collaborative and high-performance team culture with a focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement.Collaborate with cross-functional leadership teams to align process execution with overall business objectives, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.Identify process inefficiencies and opportunities for optimization, leading the implementation of process improvements. Optimize processes for scalability, accuracy, and responsiveness using automation and technology wherever possible.Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and teamwork within the team.Establish and maintain comprehensive process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), workflows and process maps, to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing.Act as a point of escalation for complex process-related inquiries and issues, working to find effective solutions and resolutions.Collaborate with senior internal stakeholders to gather insights and feedback to further enhance process execution and service quality.Manage relationships with external vendors, including carriers, administrators, and third-party platforms.Track KPIs, service metrics, and continuous improvement outcomes.Coordinate and lead large implementations, M&A and divestiture activities.Strong communication skills across job levels and cultures, with expertise in consulting and solutioning.Exceptional customer-facing skills, with the ability to influence and motivate internal/external teams and vendor partners.Keen attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work output.Ability to prioritize and execute tasks effectively under pressure.Handle sensitive and proprietary information with confidentiality.Strong analytical skills and excellent written and oral communication.Work effectively with all levels of staff, and customers.Lead and manage organizational change, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption.Overseeing Payroll Procedures: Managing end to end payroll processes for a Region or Sub-Region, including the development and implementation of payroll systemsEnsuring Compliance: Making sure payroll practices comply with relevant laws and tax obligationsManaging Payroll Staff: Hiring, training, and managing payroll specialistsCoordinating with Other Departments: Collaborating with HR, Benefits and Finance teams to process payroll for new employees and monitor payroll schedulesResolving Payroll Issues: Addressing and resolving any payroll-related errors or discrepanciesPreparing Reports: Generating reports for quarterly, yearly, monthly, bi-weekly and weekly payroll activitiesRisk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with vendor relationships, including financial, operational, and compliance risksCommunication and Collaboration: Maintain open and frequent communication with vendors to address issues promptly and foster strong relationshipsCompliance Tracking: Ensure vendors and payroll team comply with SOX and Ball's internal controls policies.Ensure robust internal controls are followed and evidenced. This includes verifying adherence to financial reporting standards, maintaining accurate records, and following established policies and regulations to mitigate risks and ensure transparency.GDPR Compliance: Implement robust data protection for payroll information, including names, addresses, bank details, and salariesContinuous Improvement: Regularly review and improve vendor management processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness

What we are looking for: 

Bachelor's Degree: Typically in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related fieldExperience: At least 5 years of related work experience in payroll managementExperience leading projects, programs, initiatives, or teams across complex environmentsAdvanced knowledge of Payroll and taxation practices and processes in the region or country the role is basedStrong understanding of payroll technologies and practices used in a Managed Services environment e.g. ADP Streamline

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Hybrid On-Site Work Environment: Based in Colorado, this position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site for three (3) or more days per work week (with core collaboration days of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). [Travel and local commute between Ball locations and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.]
  • Hiring Salary Range: $96,000 - $137,180 (Salary to be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)
  • This role will be eligible to participate in the annual incentive compensation plan.
