Operations Project Controller

About the Role
In this new role, you will contribute to establishing a Centre of Excellence for developing and optimizing greenhouse operations through circular use of industrial waste streams.
The department's focus will be defining best practices, ensuring data integrity, and strengthening performance insights across projects.
Working closely with the Financial Controllers, you will help align project-level operations with portfolio-wide financial planning, performance analysis, and governance. As Operations Project Controller, you will be the key link between operational project control and overall financial management.
This position is well suited for a finance professional with strong analytical skills and a hands-on mindset, experienced in supporting complex operational environments such as food production, industrial expansion, or infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Portfolio Financial Control
- Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing and reporting.
- Support budget preparation, financial forecasts, and performance analysis at the portfolio level.
- Maintain and improve internal financial controls and compliance procedures.
- Provide insights on financial performance, cost optimization, and profitability improvement.
2. Project Financial Management
- Develop and monitor project budgets, forecasts, and cost plans in collaboration with project managers.
- Track project expenditures, revenues, and cash flows to ensure delivery within approved budgets.
- Conduct variance analysis and provide recommendations for corrective action.
- Support project managers with financial insights and reports for steering committees and management reviews.
- Ensure proper documentation and accounting for project change orders, milestones, and capital investments.
- Switch between site ops, procurement, and GL/controlling and fix processes
3. Risk & Performance Management
- Identify and monitor financial and operational risks at projects and portfolio level.
- Develop and maintain KPIs and dashboards to track project and business performance.
- Ensure transparency in reporting and alignment with portfolio financial objectives.
4. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with project management, operations, and procurement teams to ensure accurate cost allocation.
- Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to align project financials with statutory reporting.
- Support management with ad hoc analysis for strategic decisions, investments, and expansions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or Engineering.
- Professional certification (CPA, CMA, PMP, ACCA, or equivalent) is an asset.
- 5+ years of experience in financial controlling, project controlling, or cost management gained in audit/advisory (Big 4 or equivalent), or manufacturing/project controlling in asset-heavy environments.
- Strong understanding of project management and financial reporting principles.
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills; experience with ERP and project systems is an advantage.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.
- Strong cost accounting knowledge, WIP/POC, and CapEx governance abilities.
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to operational or capital-intensive industries such as:
- Food production or processing
- Industrial expansion or manufacturing
- Infrastructure, utilities, or construction projects
- Ability to thrive in a hands-on, collaborative environment with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of a Nordic language is a plus.
