Director, Environmental Social Governance Strategy

You can help guide our Environmental Social Governance (ESG) strategy to further increase the value created for patients, society and Novartis. We are looking for an experienced leader with top strategic and operational skills to help us keep the Novartis ESG strategy best-in-class and to drive further systematic change across the organization. Join our dynamic ESG Management Office team.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Drive continued development and refinement of the 5-year ESG strategy, establish clear and meaningful targets
- Be on the forefront of knowledge in the ESG/sustainability space in the industry; develop scanning and analytics capability to provide analysis on trends and expectations in the external environment
- Drive strategic “bold moves” ESG projects for Novartis Group, the CEO, the Novartis Trust & Reputation Committee and ESG Council
- Define and drive key ESG initiatives; coordinate and provide strategic guidance to function
- or business-led ESG initiatives (e.g. with Ethics & Compliance, Global Health, Patient Access, Environmental Sustainability, Diversity & Inclusion, Country Management and more)
- Lead strategic taskforces for priority topics through ESG Council leaders and cross-functional teams
- Develop data and insights approach to keep ESG strategy and measurement best-in-class
- Serve as secretariat for the Trust & Reputation Committee, a sub-committee of the Novartis Executive Committee (chaired by the CEO) and the ESG Council, the ECN-1 group of leaders for ESG
- Develop annual strategy update on “Build Trust with Society” strategic pillar as part of the annual corporate strategy process to ECN and BoD
- Own ESG presentation material for the ECN and Board of Directors
- Partner with other teams focused on ESG within Novartis (including Investor Relations, Finance, Public Affairs and Communications) to shape Novartis’ internal and external ESG advocacy strategy and communications narrative

**Minimum requirements**

What you’ll bring to the role:

- Degree in Business or Life Sciences, MBA
- Proven experience in strategic thinking and planning looking at medium to long term goals, scenario and stakeholder evaluation and contingency planning, and operational execution
- Experienced leader who can analyze data, communicate and present clearly and make strategic recommendations
- Strong knowledge of ESG topics and experience in the pharmaceutical industry
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with strong senior stakeholder management
- Ability to navigate a complex matrix environment and to work at all levels of the organization, including executive management
- Manage complex high-quality projects involving multiple internal clients and external providers
- Extensive project and program management experience in strategic projects; management consulting background preferred
- Fluent in English other languages desirable
