Basel, Schweiz Friedrich Miescher Institute Vollzeit

The Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) in Basel, Switzerland is a world-class research institute dedicated to investigating the molecular mechanisms of health and disease in the fields of neurobiology, genome regulation and multicellular systems. FMI research is supported by state-of-the-art core facilities, employing various cutting-edge technologies for imaging, high-content screening, genomics, and computational biology.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist to lead the development of high-definition spatial transcriptomics methods (FISH and NGS based), working at the interface of the advanced imaging platform and the functional genomics platform, and in collaboration with FMI research groups.

This position is particularly suited for scientists with a strong interest in innovation and method optimization, and who have the ability to work collaboratively on diverse research projects.

The position (100%) will be funded initially for three years. Your key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Leading the implementation of spatial transcriptomics methods.
- Technology scouting, benchmarking new academic and commercial methods.
- Advising FMI researchers on best experimental designs and practices, and providing hands-on training.
- Working collaboratively with genomics and imaging facility staff for the long-term appropriation of the different technologies at the FMI.
- Working collaboratively with the computational biology facility staff to implement data processing of the wet lab methods developed.

Your ideal profile may include:

- PhD in Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
- Proven track-record in technology implementation and development.
- Strong expertise in RNA FISH methods.
- Hands-on experience with fluorescence confocal imaging and microscope automation.
- Tissue processing (histology) skills.
- Basic knowledge of NGS library preparation methods. Training will be provided accordingly.
- Basic programming skills (Python, R) would be an advantage.
- Strong communication (English), collaborative and organizational skills.
