In 2021 in 57 of our clinical development programs, had a patient engagement component to obtain the patient perspective on the design and/or conduct of clinical trial and 89 included Patient Reported Outcomes. We shared simplified summaries with more than 27 000 trial participants. In 2 international summits, we brought together 1200+ patient advocates and external attendees from 71 countries, committed to innovation with patients for patients.

In the Patient Engagement Center of Excellence, provides thought leadership in designing and implementing breakthrough Patient Engagement standards, capability programs, insights and measurement frameworks and patient experience data science.

The Director Patient Experience Data Science influences, drives and establishes the science and implementation of patient experience data with a strong focus on patient preference studies at Novartis for the whole product portfolio.

Core member of the cross-functional Patient Preference Study Strategy Team at Novartis.

May also serve as global manager of a small team.
- Accountable for the development and implementation of Novartis’ patient experience data science approach to impact research, portfolio decisions, clinical development, regulatory approval, and HTA / payor decisions, and to influence brand strategies of medical products. Core member of the cross-functional Patient Preference Study Strategy Team at Novartis.
- Drive patient experience data science activities in research and development programs. Increase awareness of the potential for patient preference studies to advance portfolio and full development decisions as well as to integrate patient experience data into benefit-risk assessments submitted to Health Authorities (e.g., FDA, EMA), value dossiers submitted to HTA bodies / payors (e.g. CADTH, IQWIG, NICE UK) and brand strategies.
- In collaboration with portfolio management and NIBR, drive the early use of patient preference studies by identifying clinical programs for which patient preference studies have the highest business impact.
- Lead the Patient Experience Data Science Network across a broad variety of therapeutic areas, line functions and divisions
- Drive scientific advice with Health Authorities and HTA bodies / payors to align on expectations towards patient experience data and to increase the impact of the patient experience data for decision making. Drive for and contribute to the publication of patient experience data and preference study results.
- Lead the review and implementation of Patient Experience Data Science guidance as developed by Health Authorities (e.g. FDA, EMA), HTA bodies / payors (e.g. CADTH, IQWIG, NICE UK) and patient organizations.
- Collaborate with leadership teams from development and commercial functions (including Patient Engagement, Clinical Data & Analytics (CD&A), Global Patient Access (GPA), Regulatory Affairs (RA)) to shape collaboration & support for patient experience data science and patient-preference activities.
- Lead enterprise-wide training activities about patient experience data science and patient preference studies.
- Represent Novartis in external stakeholder consortia to ensure leadership in patient experience data science and patient preference studies
- Build partnerships with patient experience data scientists and preference researchers.
- Develop and mentor patient experience data scientists.
- Recruit, retain and professionally develop professionals in a small team.

**Minimum requirements**
- Master’s degree in health economics, statistics, health services research or comparable
- 10+ years relevant work experience or PhD in health economics, statistics, health services research or comparable
- 8+ years relevant work experience. Demonstrated experience and understanding of Patient Preference Studies is essential
