**Postdoctoral research fellow in computational neuroscience**
**80-100 %, 1.5 - 2 year appointment**:This postdoctoral fellowship is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral research fellow with a background in computational neuroscience or a related quantitative field to work on a translational neuroscience project that employs advanced modelling of brain dynamics whilst directly interfacing with clinicians and working on real-world clinical data.

**The project**
The fellow will infer synaptic determinants of abnormal brain dynamics from a database of EEG recordings performed in paediatric patients presenting with status epilepticus and related disorders. This work will be a first opportunity to relate fundamental science insights about the pathophysiology of status epilepticus to clinical observations and thus has the potential to help refine future treatment protocols.

**The setting**
This work is part of an international collaboration between clinicians and clinical academics working in epilepsy at Kinderspital Zürich (Kispi), King's College London (KCL) and the University of Oxford. The fellow would be based at the EEG-department at Kinderspital Zürich with additional access to interdisciplinary meetings of the translational neuromodelling unit (TMU) at the University of Zürich / ETH Zürich.

**Responsibilities**:

- Develop and execute novel quantitative analyses of EEG recordings during paediatric status epilepticus
- Test hypotheses regarding the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying status epilepticus using biophysical modelling
- Present work in peer-reviewed journals and (inter)national conferences
- Contribute to the supervision of junior team members

**Requirements**:

- Research doctoral degree in a quantitative field (e.g. neuroscience, biomedical science, mathematics, physics, statistics)
- Strong background in independent data analysis demonstrated in relevant peer-reviewed research publications.
- Coding skills in at least one high-level language (e.g. Matlab, Python, R)
- Background in the neuroscience of neurological disorders (desirable)
- Knowledge of model fitting and Bayesian inference (desirable)
