Postdoctoral researcher (M/F/d) Modelling interbasin exchanges in Lake Lugano (1-2 year depending on working percentage)
**Would you like to work on the development of a hydrodynamic model to evaluate interbasin exchanges in Lake Lugano, how it has evolved and how it might change due to planned construction and climate change?** This position is an applied research project. To answer these questions of connectivity between the two basins, you will develop a three-dimensional hydrodynamic model. The model will be calibrated using current temperature data collected by the cantonal services, satellite data (temperature and light penetration depth) and lake current data. These data will be specifically collected in this project during one year by means of at two acoustic doppler profilers that will measure the currents and the exchanges between the two basins.
**We are seeking** an outstanding and highly motivated person with a doctorate in a relevant field of physics, environmental science or engineering and a strong background in numerical modelling and data analysis. Demonstrated expertise in three-dimensional hydrodynamic modelling, Python and open research practices are required. Excellent communication skills in English are essential. You should enjoy working with applied research questions.
The position can be filled at 80% for 1 year or at 40% for 2 years.
