Why we are Recruiting

The Transitioning Industrial Clusters towards Net Zero initiative was launched at COP26 by the World Economic Forum in collaboration with Accenture and EPRI to support industrial clusters in their journey toward net zero. Industrial clusters - geographic regions where industrial companies are concentrated - account for 15%-20% of global CO2 emissions. They represent a diverse range of hard-to-abate industries, making them an attractive target for emissions reduction efforts. The initiative convenes and supports industrial clusters, composed of private industrials and public stakeholders, to reduce emissions, create jobs, and develop new technologies by sharing leading practices in policy, financing, technology, and partnerships.

We are hiring a Manager, Transforming Industrial Ecosystems to lead the

Transitioning Industrial Clusters initiative

, in particular to advance the policy, finance and technology work underway, as well as lead the Forum’s Clusters community. The initiative’s main objective is to catalyse the decarbonization of industrial clusters through supporting existing, co-located facilities in defining their significant emissions reduction goals and the path to achieve it. In addition, the initiative supports creation of new industrial clusters from the first partners’ convening to the formal establishment of a collaboration.

Currently, the initiative consists of 20 Clusters present over four continents and we aim to grow the platform to 100 clusters globally.

Reporting Lines and Interactions

The Manager, Transforming Industrial Ecosystems, reports to the Head of Transforming Industrial Ecosystem Program within the Centre for Energy and Materials.

Externally, the work will involve interactions with a broad range of stakeholders and partner companies in the industry value chain, but also with relevant industry bodies and associations as well as public and private stakeholders. Establishing productive relationships externally at senior levels and across the institution will be of utmost importance for succeeding in this role.

Main responsibilities

Initiative management (50 %)
- Ensure successful delivery of the initiative and its workplan.
- Develop and guide governance and leadership of the initiative.
- Maintain and curate a relevant multi-stakeholder community committed to effecting systemic change, interacting with business, governments, and civil society.
- Manage the initiative matrix global team consisting of the knowledge partners and professional service firms supporting the initiative.
- Expand the initiative cluster member base.
- Organize initiative meetings including working group meetings, leadership meetings and public sessions.
- Support the organisation of Centre and Forum’s global events.
- Participate and speak as Forum representative at external events.

Stakeholder Engagement (30 %)
- Develop and maintain a strong network of regional senior cluster executives and HQ industrial corporate leadership teams.
- Drive uptake of the initiative with targeted outreach and through existing related workstreams in prioritised regions/countries, mobilize ecosystem stakeholders incl. policy makers, financiers, technology providers to drive global and local impact.
- Engage existing and prospective Forum Partners in the initiative to contribute to member retention and acquisitions.

Thought leadership (20%)
- Oversee the development and review initiative strategy, content, reports, policy papers and blogs.
- Ensure that the initiative is well-positioned externally incl. media.
- Keep abreast of and analyse the implications of key global and regional-level industry policy changes.
- Identify related opportunities to inform policy at global or national level in priority countries.
- Support the delivery and monitor the impact reporting and results measurement workstreams for the for Centre.
- Impact: extent to which the planned milestones and overall objectives of the initiative are achieved.
- Value delivered: participation in delivering Forum activities including at project level, centre and institutional events.
- Contributions to thought leadership, the refinement of the Centre and the industry value proposition and the initiatives outside own portfolio.
