ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT

The General Secretariat directs all the administrative and financial aspects of the Union's activities, including the implementation of the provisions of the administrative regulations on operational questions, the dissemination of information on telecommunication matters for operational and other purposes, the provision of legal advice to the Bureaux of the Union and the departments of the General Secretariat, logistic support to the Union's activities including conferences, the coordination of the work of the Union with other international organizations, the dissemination of information to the Member States and Sector Members, press, corporate and individual users of telecommunications and the general public. The General Secretariat is also responsible for the organization of world telecommunication exhibitions and forums.

As part of the corporate governance system of ITU, the Oversight Unit (OU) supports the activities of the Union with the aim of ensuring the effective, economic and efficient use of resources in achieving the overall goals, strategies and priorities set in the Strategic Plan. The overall objective of the oversight function is to help managers to practice and promote economy, efficiency, effectiveness, transparency and accountability in managing the resources entrusted to ITU for its activities. The oversight function exercises operational independence in the performance of its duties and reports directly to the Secretary-General.

**TERMS OF REFERENCE**:
The intern will work in close collaboration with the ITU Oversight Unit's Internal Audit team. The intern will ensure that s/he adheres to the endeavours of the Oversight Unit to promote accountability and professionalism and to foster a culture of learning and improvement.

Under the guidance of the internal audit assignment leader, the intern will be tasked with the following:

- Assisting in conducting audit testing and preparing audit working papers.
- Collecting and analysing relevant audit evidence.
- Formulating and documenting initial audit findings for review by the team leader.
- Performs other duties as required such as maintaining audit documentation.

**COMPETENCIES**:
**QUALIFICATION REQUIRED**:
**Education**: University degree (or completing) in Business Administration, Law, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

**Experience**: No work experience required.

**Languages**: Advanced level of English and/ or French is essential. Knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish) is a plus.

**ADDITIONAL INFORMATION**:
Unpaid internship.

**Please note that a non-remunerated Internship position at ITU does not carry the same conditions of employment as a Short-term or a Fixed-term position. Mandatory Medical Insurance, travel expenses, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or sponsoring institutions.**

It is expected that the assignment will provide the intern with the opportunity to develop skills in some of the following areas, depending on the needs of the team during the time of the internship:

- Learn about ITU’s structure and mandate.
- Understand the Oversight functions of an international organization.
- Acquiring and strengthening skills in research, writing and communication.
- Developing knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis methods.
- Developing knowledge of audit testing, audit working papers and audit conclusion.
- Developing knowledge of ERP use and data / document extraction.
