The Forum’s Advanced Manufacturing Industry community brings together business leaders to anticipate how pioneering factory technologies, innovative business models and new partnerships are transforming business’s ability to drive economic and societal impact. The Head of the Advanced Manufacturing Industry will be responsible for defining and implementing the agenda of the industry community and for developing a comprehensive portfolio of activities to deliver value to Partner companies. This portfolio will span opportunities across geographies and themes, such as adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies (3D printing, advanced robotics, artificial intelligence, etc.) to transform manufacturing, strengthened collaboration between manufacturers, small and medium-sized enterprises and start-ups to foster innovation across supply chains, and development of new business models and strategies focused on new value creation and sustainability.

Reporting Lines & Interactions

The Head of Advanced Manufacturing Industry will report to the Head of the Platform for Shaping the Future of Advanced Manufacturing and Value Chains.

Internally, the person will work with colleagues in our Business Engagement teams, the teams driving the work of other relevant Platforms, and other Heads of Industry covering related industry sectors. Externally, with a broad range of stakeholders in Forum Partner and non-Partner companies, governments, academia and civil society.

Breakdown of main responsibilities- Be the source of insight on innovation, strategy and change related to advanced manufacturing, identifying key challenges and opportunities for chief executive, operating, technology, strategy and/or innovation officers- Develop a unique, world-class agenda designed to address these issues and advance opportunities facing the industry. This may range from dialogues series and roundtables to a portfolio of projects run on the Forum’s Platform for Shaping the Future of Advanced Manufacturing and Production and other Platforms.- Maintain and expand the community of companies partnering with the World Economic Forum on advanced manufacturing, from the largest multinational companies to small and medium-sized enterprises and start-ups- Work with senior executives from Forum Partner companies to deliver new insights, and incubate new collaborations to drive action and impact- Engage public figures, civil society, academia or others in the Forum’s multi-stakeholder Platforms to deliver on the agenda defined by the industry community- Partner with the Forum’s Business Development teams to attract new companies to the industry community, delivering on growth targets set for the industry; support the creation of customized value propositions for potential Partner companies- Successful design and delivery of a coherent strategy, impact achieved by the overall industry community, and number of collective efforts incubated, launched, and brought to scale within the framework of the Forum’s Platforms- Performance against targets in terms of numbers and relevance of organizations actively engaged in the industry community and the broader Platform for Shaping the Future of Advanced Manufacturing and Value Chains- Ability to generate and disseminate new insights to position the Forum at the forefront of the conversations on advanced manufacturing- Feedback from constituents on the fit of engagement and activities of the industry community to their specific needs

Preferred Requirements and Experience- Strong academic background, including a master’s degree in business, economics, engineering or related disciplines- 10+ years of professional experience, with expertise in advanced manufacturing or related industries- Excellent strategic acumen combined with the ability to work in a dynamic and demanding environment- Proven agility, with a strong orientation for driving growth through innovative thinking and in changing environments- Ability to build strong internal relationships and networks within complex organizations and multi-cultural environments- Robust network-building skills with a passion for cultivating external relationships- Demonstrated ability in coaching and developing teams- Outstanding communication skills, with fluency in written and spoken English- Comfortable with frequent global travel
