Executive Director, Oncology Policy

There were 18.1 million newly diagnosed cancer patients globally last year. In 2040, there will be 25.9 million new patients. Cancer is the number one killer of people aged 45-67, killing people during their peak earning and contributing years. As part of the Worldwide Value & Access team, this role is critical in leading the development and execution of health systems and policy reform initiatives together with countries as we enable more sustainable access to quality cancer care for patients.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Lead and continuously adapt the oncology sustainable systems solutions (3S) strategy to address evolving healthcare environments, working directly with senior faculty while mobilizing an internal 3S community.
- Lead global level partnerships, external engagement and link with communications to drive strategic cancer policy priorities, including convenings, publications and partnerships.
- Adapt policy narrative to hone down on key health barriers, develop action plans to implement with countries. You will also translate policy priorities and sustainable systems solutions into impact for commercial-facing leaders and associates.
- Represent Worldwide Value and Access (WVA) at cross-functional policy initiatives within the company and externally. You will lead regular alignment and dissemination mechanisms, identify gaps in policy related to the Novartis Oncology pipeline and portfolio, and build plans to address, including policy positions where needed.
- Innovate, recommend and transform the internal oncology policy think tank, maximizing value of the group’s collective power through focused engagement on key trends and issues, seeking actionable feedback and counsel.
- Collaborate with public affairs, communications, patient engagement and other functions to drive simplicity in content and messaging for policy positions, advocacy and general communications.
- Act as a role model, providing strategic advice within and outside of the oncology policy & healthcare systems center of excellence.

**Minimum requirements**

What you’ll bring to the role:

- Advanced degree required with focus on health policy, public health or related field; business background in education desirable. Fluent English (oral and written).
- Experience in shaping health policy or at least one healthcare system reform in one country; experience in multiple countries highly beneficial.
- Experience in cancer care and cancer policy ideal
- Track record of building and leading initiatives engaging high level senior academic thought leaders in public health and policy; Experience working in or with trans-national organizations impacting healthcare policy desirable.
- Experience leading projects with best-in-class capabilities and a servant leader approach.
- 5+ years’ experience working with senior executives or government officials; 5+ years’ experience in healthcare; Experience working internationally with multi-geographic teams.

Desirable requirements:

- Market access or commercial experience desirable.
- Health economics and data analytics a plus.
- Pricing policy acumen a plus.
