Cloud Infrastructure Architect

**Purpose of the role**:
The Bank for International Settlements’ mission is to support central banks' pursuit of monetary and financial stability through international partnership and to act as a bank for central banks. The Cloud Engineering team as part of the IT Infrastructure group within the Bank’s IT department plays a key role supporting this mission and is responsible for delivering the Bank’s core infrastructure platforms and services.

We are looking for a Cloud Infrastructure Architect with an extensive hands-on experience in planning, designing, and implementing hybrid cloud enterprise solutions based on Azure including IaaS and PaaS services. This position is a key hire as the Cloud team is currently at the foundation of the Bank’s cloud adoption journey and the ability to take ownership of initiatives is essential. You will bring your exceptional architecture and business consulting skills to be able to demonstrate technical excellence in the implementation phase.

You will report directly to the Head of Cloud and Windows Engineering and will be a key contributor in enterprising the cloud strategy.

**Principal accountabilities**:
As a member of the Cloud team, you will have responsibility for a variety of tasks, including:

- Design and implementation of public cloud infrastructure strategies
- Contribute to the implementation of a bank-wide cloud adoption, operating models, and governance framework
- Collate business requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Maintain and support cloud platforms and services
- Contribute toward cloud product management (service management, supplier management, budget preparation, management of enhancements pipeline, compliance with internal policies, release management)

**Qualifications, skills, and experience**:

- At least five years of demonstrable hands-on experience in architecting cloud solutions, including IaaS and PaaS, through to delivering successful enterprise projects in the public cloud
- Ability to adopt a “consultant” role for both IT and business and deliver key strategies to all levels of seniority
- Experience in Cloud cost management, including planning and optimising services to budget, whilst still being able to scale to performance expectations
- Solid experience in network design, including multi-site and external connectivity, firewall rules and routing protocols. ExpressRoute would be a plus
- Proficiency in enterprise infrastructure, networking and security topics with the ability to comfortably work with SMEs from each, translating between both cloud and on-premises concepts
- A natural preference to DevOps orientated practices, with automation and reusability as standard
- Demonstrated ability to work in small or medium-sized teams and foster cooperation across units and teams
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical skills, pragmatic problem-solver, quick learner
- Vendor specific professional certification in cloud technologies or commitment to obtain one within period of one year would be a plus
- Fluency in English. Any other additional language is a plus

**Technologies & practises**
- Experience with Microsoft Azure is an asset
- Hands-on experience with provisioning and configuration management tools (e.g. Terraform, Puppet, Chef, Ansible)
- Deep domain expertise of cloud infrastructure solutions; including IaaS, PaaS, security, management, storage, networking, monitoring, containers, infrastructure-as-code, and scripting languages (e.g., Powershell and Terraform)
- Experience in defining and implementing business strategies; including Cloud strategies, Cloud Target Operating Model (CTOM), and Cloud Migration strategies
