About the Role
CERN's Detector Technologies Group is seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to contribute to the development of the future ATLAS ITk Pixel detector. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for machining components using conventional and computer numerical controlled machines (CNC), participating in the construction of complex mechanical assemblies, and supporting the activities of the EP-DT Composites laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
- Machining of components by conventional and computer numerical controlled machines (CNC)
- Participating in the construction of complex mechanical assemblies, including high-precision support structures for the Pixel detector
- Supporting the activities of the EP-DT Composites laboratory
- Performing quality control tests of detector components and assemblies
- Supporting detector integration activities, taking part in the development of tooling and test setups
- Procuring components, material and tooling
Requirements
- Comprehensive use of conventional milling machines with some basic knowledge of numerical controlled machines (CNC)
- Precision assembly of mechanical components and structures
- Knowledge of CAD software
- Good communication
- Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage
Desirable Skills
- Previous experience working in a laboratory environment using metrology, electro-mechanical, thermal or pressure testing equipment
- Basic knowledge of composite materials or joining techniques (e.g. adhesive bonding)
