Explore the fascinating world of materials science at CERN, where our experts study the properties of materials under extreme conditions.

About Us

At CERN, we're driven by a quest for knowledge and innovation. Our physicists and engineers are pushing the boundaries of human understanding, using the world's largest scientific instruments to unravel the mysteries of the universe.

About the Job

This exciting opportunity is part of the CLIC study, a large collaboration that explores the behavior of materials under extreme conditions. As a key member of our team, you'll work closely with experts in plasmas, RF technology, vacuum technology, and surface science to develop novel techniques for measuring field-emitted electron currents.

Responsibilities
  • Investigate the effect of plasma surface treatments on materials resistance to electrical breakdown
  • Develop state-of-the-art test facilities to support your research
  • Work collaboratively with international teams to advance our understanding of materials science
Requirements

We're looking for a talented individual with experience in material behavior under high electric fields, knowledge of vacuum and plasma technologies, and surface analysis techniques. A Master's degree or PhD in Physics or engineering (materials, mechanical, or related field) is required, along with 2-6 years of post-graduation professional experience or no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience with a PhD.

What We Offer

CERN offers a competitive salary range of 62,000 - 68,000 CHF per year, comprehensive health insurance, and membership in the CERN Pension Fund. You'll also receive installation grants, family allowances, and payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.
