Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Trade Compliance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our compliance team, you will be responsible for ensuring that our import and export activities are in compliance with all relevant regulations and laws.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the coordination of import/export shipments with the Corporate Logistics and Compliance departments, perform SAP Global Trade Services (GTS) export compliance screening, set up restrictions in SAP GTS for import/export compliance concerns, and manage shipments with export restrictions.
  • Assign HTS classifications, Export Control Classification (ECCN), request Other Government Agency (OGA) import product codes necessary for importation and assist in the country of origin determination for manufactured and purchased products imported and exported by Bio-Rad.
  • Maintain and assist with implementation of Bio-Rad's export and import compliance procedures and work instructions.
  • Subject matter expert in one or multiple areas of the law such as HTS, ECN, Origin, Valuation, Free Trade Agreements.
  • Handle daily information requests from Customs Brokers for import clearance of products and materials, administer import/export recordkeeping requirements.
  • Support projects focused on improving business operations and processes in the EMEA region, coordinate with Customer Service and logistics to troubleshoot problem orders/shipments.
  • Responsible for auditing customs brokerage and shipment transactions and files.
  • Develop presentations and effectively communicate results with recommended action plans to management.
  • Use data analysis/modeling to create new reports, troubleshoot and modify existing reports including Target KPIs, commodity indices, cost savings opportunities, etc, partner on initiatives to support the creation of new reports, metrics and dashboards based on business needs, troubleshoot, report on and test new system/tool functionality.
  • Act as a liaison between end-users, IT and other cross-functional teams and professionals in the analysis, design, configuration, testing and maintenance of systems to ensure optimal operational performance, support internal audit procedures.
  • Provide necessary compliance training to operational personnel.
  • Provide recommendations and implement improvements to trade compliance management.
  • Responsible for analyzing and interpreting export and import regulations and provide risk assessments and advice related to business activities.
  • Identify and develop business processes to address compliance risks.
  • Maintain awareness of industry and market trends through ongoing research.

Requirements

  • Min. 7 years of experience in a similar position (data management, dynamic Global Trade), ideally experienced working in bio-pharma, medical or life science related companies.
  • Knowledge of trade compliance regulations in more than one country.
  • Advanced quantitative skills with proficiency in data analysis (SAP/MS Access) modeling (MS Excel) and presenting (MS PowerPoint), advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and tools such as PowerBI.
  • Expert knowledge about how to qualify items under various Free Trade agreements, Customs Reconciliation & Duty Reductions Program.
  • Skill in creating statistical reporting, including skill in composing logical, detailed and analytical reports, ability to create presentations and present to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Advanced skills in product classification - Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), Dual-Use classification (ECN).
  • Demonstrated experience in working in cross-functional teams driving, developing and implementing Customs related procedures and work instructions.
  • Multi-lingual preferred.
