Job Summary

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is seeking a highly skilled Network Engineer to join its Communication Systems Group. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for designing, operating, and developing CERN's network infrastructures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the operation and development of CERN's network infrastructures, ensuring high-performance and reliability.
  • Implement or propose developments leading to simplified and scalable operation of the networks, improving efficiency and reducing costs.
  • Interpret users' needs, design suitable connectivity solutions, and oversee their proper implementation, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
  • Provide expert advice for debugging and troubleshooting complex problems, resolving issues efficiently and effectively.
  • Follow-up technical issues and feature requests with equipment vendors, ensuring CERN's interests and needs are adequately met.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Computer Science or a related field.
  • Proven experience designing and operating campus or data centre networks at scale, with experience in wireless network design and management a significant advantage.
  • Experience debugging and troubleshooting networking issues, from the physical layer to routing protocols running on equipment, including experience with Wi-Fi related radio-frequency issues.
  • Experience in maintaining regular interactions and relationships with manufacturers, ensuring timely resolution of technical issues.
  • Experience in software development and knowledge of scripting languages (i.e. Python or Perl) a plus.
