Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive compensation package that includes a monthly stipend ranging between 6,212 and 6,828 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax). In addition, you will be covered by our comprehensive health scheme, which provides protection for yourself, your spouse, and children.

Other benefits include membership of the CERN Pension Fund, installation grant, family, child, and infant allowances, payment of travel expenses, and 30 days of paid leave per year.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Applied Physicist to join our team as a Fellow in the L1CT group. As a key member of our team, you will play a leading role in the development and maintenance of offline software for both current and Phase-2 systems.

Your responsibilities will include trigger simulation, byte-stream conversion, trigger reconstruction, data quality monitoring and validation, database interactions for trigger and conditions, and operating the Central Trigger system.

You will work closely with our team of experts to design and implement next-generation hardware and firmware for the Phase-2 Upgrade of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience in object-oriented C++ programming in a large, collaborative software project
  • Background in Particle Physics and operation of a HEP experiment
  • Strong working skills in teams
Eligibility Criteria

To apply for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You are a national of a country listed on the UNESCO list
  • You have a professional background in Particle Physics or a related field with either a Master's degree with 2-6 years of post-graduation experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation experience
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before
About the Job

This position involves work in Radiation Areas and interventions in underground installations. The contract duration is 24 months with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum. The target start date is March 2025.
