CAD/CAM-CNC Workshop Technician

Job Description

As a CAD-CAM/CNC Technician in the Large Magnet Facility section, you will support the production of HL-LHC and HFM of our mechanical workshop operating two numerically controlled (NC) milling centers (5 and 3 axes) and one NC lathe.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement NC programs using dedicated software tools;
  • Utilize NC post-processors to create programs for complex machining requirements (e.g. 5 axes);
  • Operate NC machines as needed;
  • Manage and maintain the inventory of NC machines tooling and support the procurement of new and/or replacement tooling;
  • Develop and maintain procedures and documentation related to the operation and maintenance of all NC machines in the workshop;
  • Support the workshop manager in various tasks such as outsourcing part machining: finding new suppliers, obtaining quotations, and following up on orders;
  • Support the engineer in charge of the maintenance of all NC machines and more globally for all the machines under their responsibility in the workshops through the CERN GMAO tool: follow up and keep up to date the calibration status of all measuring equipment, etc.
  • Support the engineer in charge and the workshop manager for reporting tasks like workshop production follow-up, weekly production reports, etc.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Reading mechanical drawings with ISO standards dimensioning;
  • Subtractive machining of metals and glass fiber with numerical controlled machines;
  • G-code trajectory programming for NC manufacturing machines;
  • CAM software: ISO G-code, Siemens ShopMill & ShopTurn, G-code post-processors;
  • CAD software: CATIA, BricsCAD - GMAO software;
  • Fluent in English or French, with the ability to rapidly acquire a second language a plus.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State;
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in a mechanical technician diploma (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma;
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before;
  • Applicants with a bachelor, master or PhD degree are not eligible for this opportunity.
