We are seeking a skilled Maternity Care Specialist to join our team at Medecins Sans Frontieres.
About the Role:
The Maternity Care Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring high-quality maternity care services are provided to women and newborns in our projects around the world.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and implement all sexual and reproductive health activities, prioritizing maternal and child healthcare.
- Assist field doctors and nurses as needed, providing support during normal or complicated deliveries.
- Provide pre- and post-delivery care for mothers and babies, focusing on evidence-based practices.
- Manage, train, and supervise local midwives and the maternity team, promoting best practices and capacity building.
- Ensure all pregnant women and newborns are referred to the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), adhering to international standards.
- Establish and maintain maternity departments in new health centers/hospitals, promoting a safe and supportive environment for patients.
- Care for survivors of sexual violence, providing sensitive and compassionate care.
- Work with community birth attendants to promote safe community birthing practices, enhancing maternal and child health outcomes.
- Supervise the distribution of drugs, track consumption patterns, order supplies, and monitor inventories, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Oversee administrative procedures and documents, analyzing routine data for monitoring purposes.
About You:
To succeed as a Maternity Care Specialist, you will need:
- A qualification as a registered midwife, with at least two years of professional experience.
- Recent clinical experience (at least six months within the last 24 months), preferably in labour wards and difficult case management.
- Experience working in developing countries, with a willingness to adapt to challenging contexts worldwide.
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Fluency in English and/or French, with a commitment to MSF's values and work.
- Adaptability, flexibility, and the ability to manage stress in a multicultural team environment.
- Availability for a minimum of six months, with a strong desire to make a meaningful impact in global maternal and child healthcare.
Assets:
- Experience or diploma in tropical medicine, with training in emergency obstetrics (e.g., Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics).
- People management experience, with fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, or Russian.
Estimated Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 per annum, depending on location and experience. This estimate is based on industry standards and takes into account the qualifications, experience, and responsibilities required for this role.
As an MSF midwife, your training skills will be crucial in helping traditional birth attendants develop new skills, while also learning from the women you treat to understand cross-cultural issues surrounding childbirth.
