Programme Overview

CERN's Doctoral Student Programme offers a unique opportunity to work on your thesis while contributing to cutting-edge research at the forefront of science.

As a doctoral researcher, you will have the chance to work in a diverse range of fields, including applied physics, IT, mathematics, and engineering, and contribute to world-famous experiments of unprecedented scale and scope.

During your studies, you will receive a contract of association for 6 months initially, renewable up to 3 years, and an allowance of 3868 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).

Additionally, you will have access to CERN's comprehensive Health Insurance scheme and 2.5 days of paid leave per month.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You must be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You must have started or be about to start a doctoral programme in a university.
  • Your work at CERN must be all or part of the thesis work required to obtain your PhD.
  • You must have a good knowledge of English or French.
