About the Job

World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the position of Occupational Health Specialist. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in promoting and protecting the health of workers in the Region of the Americas.

Key Responsibilities

Below are some of the key responsibilities of the Occupational Health Specialist:

  • Provide technical guidance and support to Member States in the development and implementation of workers' health policies and programs.
  • Advocate for the inclusion of workers' health in public health policies and programs.
  • Collaborate with other WHO departments and partners to promote intersectoral approaches to workers' health.
  • Support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of workers' health programs.
  • Provide training and capacity-building activities for health professionals and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of technical guidance and tools on workers' health.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in occupational health, public health, or a related field. A master's degree in a relevant field is required, and a PhD would be an asset. The candidate should have at least nine years of combined national and international technical and managerial experience in developing and implementing health strategies and policies in the area of workers' health.

The candidate should also have excellent knowledge and skills in public health, workers' health, working and employment conditions, and social protection, with concrete experience in the development and implementation of health policies, strategies, and programs. Managerial, leadership, and advocacy skills are also essential for this role.

Language Skills

The candidate should have very good knowledge of English or Spanish, with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of French or Portuguese would be an asset.

IT Skills

The candidate should have demonstrated ability to effectively use current technology and software, spreadsheets, and presentations, as well as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and management information systems.
