Environmental Sustainability Specialist

Job Purpose

The Environmental Sustainability Specialist ensures the implementation of environmental procedures to prevent pollution and ensures compliance with MARPOL regulations. This includes the correct handling and disposal of waste materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reports any misalignment or non-compliance to the Master and ensures the correct application of environmental policies.
  • Manages garbage disposal in accordance with MARPOL regulations, national, local legislation, and company policy.
  • Ensures proper waste water and effluent management, including external sampling tests and reporting.
  • Ensures compliance with air emission management policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates environmental training for crew members and ensures onboard personnel is trained on chemical safety.
  • Ensures external companies and technicians are aware of environmental policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates monthly pollution emergency drills and assists with environmental findings.
  • Supports the 1st Officer with risk assessments and ensures environmental aspects are compliant.
  • Carries out periodic inspections of safety and environmental protection equipment.
  • Updates environmental logbooks and plans, ensuring correct recordkeeping and filling out.

Qualifications

  • Fluent in oral and written English.
  • Environmental or science-based bachelor's degree or higher.
  • STCW 95 compliance and certification.
  • Knowledge of MARPOL, Garbage Management Plan, Chemical Management Plan, and ISO 14001/50001.
  • Basic Windows-based programs knowledge.
  • Recognised medical certification.
  • Proven ability to work in a harmonious productive team environment.
  • Meet the requirements of the laws of the Flag State of the ship regarding health and physical requirements.
  • Extensive successful experience in a similar position within MSC or other Cruise company.

VISA Requirements

Possess a valid passport and when possible a seaman book copy.
